Why? - (Good Question!)

In the name of Zahra Kazemi. In the name of Thomas Jefferson. In the name of all human beings, young and old, big and small, why oh why do current British politicians (and some American politicians) continue to favor greater trade cooperation with the Mullahs, especially when the Iranian people are on the verge of achieving their long awaited FREEDOM?

Save the Women, Save Ourselves!

Another important article by Dr. Michael Ledeen.

Here's a taste:

President Bush and his team of self-declared democratic revolutionaries have done a lot of talking about supporting the Iranian people, but they haven't delivered on their promises. As they talk, the toll mounts, from Americans killed in Iraq and Afghanistan to Canadians brutally murdered in Tehran, to the oppression and exploitation of the Iranian people, above all the women.

Faster, please. It's getting embarrassing, you know.

Zahra's Memory.

There has been a lot of talk recently regarding the late Zahra Kazemi, a courageous and accomplished Canadian-Iranian photojournalist who was killed at the hands of the Islamic Regime in Iran during the summer of 2003. She had visited Iran as a photojournalist and was arrested as she was photographing a demonstration outside Tehran's Evin prison (A notorious political prisoner dungeon where thousands of young Iranians wait, suffer, and many times never see the light of day.)

Days after her arrest, many reports surfaced that she had been beaten, raped, and had subsequently lost her life. Many Iranians and Human Rights activists were in an uproar about her murder, and petitioned governments, wrote articles, etc... But neither the Canadian government, nor any government with considerable weight made an ounce of noise.

Recently, an Iranian Doctor by the name of Dr. Shahram Azam, who was employed at Bagheeyehollah Hospital in Tehran (connected with the revolutionary guards) where Zahra was transfered before dying said that the regime's interogators and goons had brutally gang-raped the photojournalist while she was under questioning and torture.

The German weekly, Die Zeit [in the Thursday, March 31st issue] states that Kazemi was delivered to the hospital directly after undergoing severe torture in prison; she died on July 11th, 2003. Dr. Shahram Azam, who examined Kazemi at the hospital was able to provide a firsthand account. Fifty four year old Kazemi was in a coma when delivered to the hospital in the early hours of June 27th 2003; her body was covered with contusions and as such, she was transfered to the emergency room of Bagheeyehollah Hospital.

Dr. Azam reports that it was quite clear that she had been severely tortured and brutally gang-raped. He went on to say that the regime's authorities (the security forces and the judiciary) continue to play the blame game and therefore at this juncture felt that there was nothing left for him to do but to leave Iran and find a way to inform the world of the regime's barbarous nature and the brutality perpatrated on the Iran people, on a daily basis, all over Iran for 26 years now.

Dr. Azam left Iran with his wife and daughter and has moved Canada on assylum for the time being.

This is not something that we the freedom-loving Iranian community and Human Rights activists didn't already know. There was an abundance of sources two years ago providing information about what had happened, but only now is the media and some governments taking more notice of this tragedy. Another important fact that the media, President Bush (who declared a policy for support of the Iranian people in his State Of The Union address earlier this year) and any world leader who has even an ounce of ethics must wake up to, is that in Iran there have and continue to be millions of people who suffer the same fate as Zahra suffered, and this must be ACKNOWLEDGED and ACTED UPON!

The British, French, Germans, Chinese and other governments and politicians of the world will likely continue to appease the Mullahs in order to exploit the Iranian people and their country, in an effort to satisfy current and future business channels and opportunities.

In the meantime, activists, citizens of the world, the Iranian people and Zahra's son Stephan will continue to fight for freedom!

Please sign this important petition that was started in the summer of 2003 and continue to do anything you can to get the message out about the Iranian struggle for freedom, and the millions of Zahra's who are struggling for their freedom!
