Hundreds of protesters called for the death of
Iran's supreme leader Ali Khamenei as thousands of
onlookers watched early Friday, the third day of
demonstrations in the capital despite threats by the
hard-line regime to crack down to end the disturbances.
The three nights of demonstrations have produced the
largest outpouring of public opposition against Iran's
leadership in months, involving hundreds of young
Iranians, some still teenagers.
They shouted chants including, "Khamenei the
traitor must be hanged," "Guns and tanks and fireworks,
the mullahs must be killed," and "student prisoners must
be freed," witnesses said.

discovered Ghassemlou's bullet-riddled body seated in an
armchair. His two associates were sprawled dead on the

month later, on September 17,
Sadegh Sharafkandi, who succeeded the murdered
Ghassemlou, together with two of his associates, were
gunned down mafia-style while they ate at a Berlin
restaurant called Mykonos.
German police arrested the leader of the hit squad Kazem
Darabi (an Iranian) and four of the eight suspected
Lebanese perpetrators and put them on trial in Berlin. The
Mykonos trial lasted three and a half years and involved
246 sessions of the court, 176 witnesses and thousands of
pages of documentary evidence. Despite the German
Government's attempts to pressure the Court to refrain
from pointing a finger at Tehran, the president of the
tribunal, Judge Frithjof Kubsch, declared that the
"atrocious murders" were ordered by the "highest state
levels". In March 1996 an international arrest warrant was
issued for Ali Fallahian, Rafsanjani's Intelligence
Minister, for his role in the assassinations of Iranian
dissidents in Germany.

Ayatollah Khomeini issued a special "religious decree"
that required that all virgin women prisoners be raped
before execution to prevent them from going to heaven.
They also threatened Ashraf Jalali, Farah Shirmahale, and
Mashid Sheikh with rape. The routine was to rape all of
the women, especially the unmarried girls, before they
were executed. Ashraf was young, not more than
17-years-old. I got to know her in prison and in the
torture chamber. She had attractive dark eyes, and would
stare at one point. When asked what she was thinking
about, she said she was thinking about freedom for the
women of her country. She used to say that the more they
flogged us with cables, the more she believed in the path
she had chosen. She was only with us a short time; they
executed her very quickly. I shared a cell for one year with
Monireh Rajavi.
She was tortured with a long cable,
which shredded her flesh and the soles of her feet. She
was tortured with "the scale" for 12 hours.
Every two
hours, they dropped her on the floor and then started
again. For days on end, she was in the torture chamber for
21 hours of the day, either being tortured herself or
forced to watch other women being tortured.
My most lasting and beautiful memory of Monireh
Rajavi is of her face, which had an innocent
expression and smile, always. I saw a special dignity in
her face. Her eyes spoke to you, like they were telling
her story.

On April 24, 1990, Dr Kazem Rajavi,
a human rights
activist and the brother of Massoud Rajavi, the leader of
the National Council of Resistance, was
assassinated by a four man hit team that opened fire on
his car outside his home in Geneva. Two months later, the
Swiss Police issued a report saying that the killers
carried Iranian government service passports -- "all
issued on the same date" -- and flew between Tehran and
Geneva on Iran Air. |

In the final section of her memoirs, Mrs. Pakravan
provides details of the arrest, imprisonment, and
execution of her husband by the revolutionary court.
General Pakravan was taken from his house to an unknown
destination. When his son tried to contact him, he was
told that the general was “not arrested at all. He is the
guest of the ayatollah.” But in fact he was imprisoned
shortly after his arrest.
According to a fellow inmate, a few days before his
execution, General Pakravan had smiled and said, “It’s
funny. I’ve never lived in such conditions even in the
army — in such complete denuement [destitution]. I know
what’s going to happen to me. It will be the machine gun,
but I’ve never felt so [peaceful].”
One of the more fascinating segments of her memoirs is
the description of her
husband’s weekly luncheons with Ayatollah
Khomeini
in
1963, when the ayatollah was under house arrest.
According to the general, “The ayatollah used to say in
this very flowery Eastern way, 'Timsar [General], I count
the days until we reach the day of our luncheon.’” He
described the ayatollah as, “very handsome. He had
extraordinary presence, a power of seduction.
He had a great charisma.” They
talked about religion, philosophy, and history. The
general found “his ignorance in history and philosophy [to
be] unbelievable.” He also found him to be very ambitious
and secretive. So much so that “it made my hair stand on
end. It was frightening,” he told his wife.

We must all die one day but it is the manner of death
that will echo through eternity. For some people General
Rahimi had become a myth.
Then one day I met Alireza Nourizadeh, a prominent
journalist. Sitting in his office at the Centre of Arab
and Iranian Studies, we talked about the revolution. He
told me that on the "Night of the generals" he had stood
on the roof and witnessed the executions from close hand.
"An instant before the fatal shots cut him down, Rahimi
had shouted something defiant into the faces of his
executioners," he recalled. Amid the sound of gunfire, the
words were indistinct. According to him, Rahimi had
shouted: "Javid Shah!" (Long Live the King!)
The execution of her husband remains one of the most
painful episodes of her tragic story. "Even thinking about
it now tears my heart," she says. "I was still in hiding
when my friends broke the news to me. They had heard it on
the morning news and from their whispers I gradually
learned the horrible truth. I became hysterical."

Iranian government? And now that the IAEA report is out,

come together to make it very clear to Iran that we will
not tolerate the construction of a nuclear weapon. Iran
would be dangerous if they have a nuclear weapon. I
brought this subject up in the G8; we had a good
discussion on the subject, with near universal agreement
that we all must work together to prevent Iran from
developing a nuclear weapon.
And secondly,
I appreciate those courageous souls who speak out for
freedom in Iran. They need to know America stands squarely
by their side. And I would urge the Iranian administration
to treat them with the utmost of respect. " |

Maine (Reuters) - President
Bush on Sunday praised pro-democracy demonstrators in
Iran, calling their protests a positive step toward
freedom.
"This is the beginning of people expressing themselves
toward a free Iran which I think is positive," President
Bush said.
"I think that freedom is a powerful incentive," Bush
told reporters after he attended church services during a
weekend visit to Kennebunkport. "I believe that some day
freedom will prevail everywhere because freedom is a
powerful drive." |

Secretary Donald Rumsfeld urged support on Monday for
pro-democracy demonstrators in Iran and said the
best way to deal with the Iranian nuclear program would be
to "liberate the Iranian people."

Bio:
Is a resident scholar at the American Enterpise Institute. His books
include "Machiavelli on Modern Leadership," "Freedom
Betrayed: How America Led a Global Democratic Revolution,
Won the Cold War, and Walked Away" and "Superpower
Dilemmas: The U.S. and the USSR at Century's End." From
1982 to 1986, he was a consultant for the State

Dr. Michael Ledeen Addresses the Policy Forum
The focus of the global fight against terrorism should
be placed squarely on Iran - "the mother of modern
terrorism" - announced Dr. Michael Ledeen, a Resident
Scholar at the American Enterprise Institute for Public
Policy Research. Addressing the JINSA Policy Forum in
Washington on April 30, 2003, Ledeen argued that now is
the time for Iranian liberation. "I have never seen a
country more ready for democracy than Iran."
Ledeen outlined three lessons the U.S. learned in Iraq.
First, the U.S. military "performed better than was
expected both in terms of technology and the soldiers."
Second, when the U.S. Marines went to Iran, they were
welcomed by the people and were asked if they were staying
to free them. "This was a blatant outcry for liberation,"
Ledeen said. Finally, it has become clear that Saudi
Arabia is the main financier of terrorism. Mosques and
madrasas built by the Saudis continue to preach the
Wahhabist doctrine of global jihad against non-believers
and urging that arms be taken up against the U.S., Israel
and their allies. Ledeen reminded the audience that the
terrorists who carried out the horrifying September 11
attacks were well-educated Saudi Arabians.

The perspective we get on Earth,
our planet appears to be big and sturdy with an endless
ocean of air. From space, astronauts often get the
impression that the Earth is small with a thin, fragile
layer of atmosphere. For a space traveler, the
distinguishing Earth features are the blue waters, brown
and green land masses and white clouds set against a
black background. We should love and respect our small
beautiful mother earth planet. Many dream of traveling

to enhance the quality of life and environment in this

What is an inflection point? Mathematically, we
encounter an inflection point when the rate of change of

shown in the diagram, it's the point at which a curve
