On wednsday there was a ceremony commemorating 18 Tir at the Industrial University of Esfehan. At this event, those who were martyred on this day were remembered such as Ezat Ebrahim Nejad who was killed by the regime's forces. Afsaneh Ebrahim Nejad, Ezat Ebrahim's sister, said that despite threats by the Intelligence ministry, we had a ceremony commemorating Ezat Ebrahim on Dokhtar bridge. She added over the phone: " They came a week ago and made my parents sign promisaries to not hold any events or commemorations, or have any students come over. They had only threatened several families and students. I myself read something, and one of the students from the Medicall College who had come from Tehran also gave a speech. He said ' we wanted to come with 40 busses because they wouldn't let us gather anywhere. They didn't allow us to do anything for 18 Tir even though we had organised 40 busses, and all the students were ready to come. But as usual they prevented us from gathering and coming. There were groups from Tehran and Khoram Abad who were preparing to come, but they were blocked. Because if we lost one Ezat, we have thousands more Ezats in our country".

Despite all these suppressive measures, reports from Iran indicate that as night fell on July 8, thousands of students and youths took to the streets in various parts of Tehran and other cities. Iranians called Farsi broadcasting media based abroad to reiterate their determination to defy the mullahs’ security forces.

Comamnder Tala'i, lies and betrayals till when? I heard that you claimed last night was no different than any other night. If last night was no different than other nights why did you have so many guards wondering the streets? Why were you stopping people step by step and at every intersection for interrogations? Atleast be brave and courrageous, if you're supposed to be a commander you shouldn't be such a coward, if last night was normal then you wouldn't have drowned the streets with all the signs of your terror. You know full well that if you had permitted gatherings around the universities this year, waves of people would have come, like what happened at Laleh Park last year where you were forced to disperse the masses by firing into the air. Lies till when? You ignorant coward, atleast have some honesty with yourself, you are betraying your nation, a nation where 90% of the people are opposed to a regime that will come to an end sooner or later. Starting today start thinking about that day, don't do anything that will then force the people to tear you apart into little pieces out of their rage. Don't you remember what they did to the Savak agents in the last revolution? So figure out what side you're on starting today, because that day is very near.
......................................

The regime's fears were evident tonight around 11pm in the streets and areas in the North of Tehran that had not witnessed much political protests and are usually quiet, like Gherateyeh Park, Horavi square. This area was the site of an unprecendated presence of the regime's forces who were stopping and interrogating everyone, and this had caused massive traffic jams with mini busses everywhere. I had not seen this type of martial law in the northern part of Tehran in 20 years. Amazing how much the regime's fears have increased that they have turned these streets into gathering places for the milita. Today the nation should not be silent and apathetic towards this much injustice without any protest. This regime is a worst dictatorship than the Shah's.

..................................

Greetings dear friends, a group of political prisoners are being secretly held in the military headquarters near the Yazd terminal. In order to prevent the prisoners from knowing where they are, they have ordered the terminal to not make any announcements from their loudspeakers other than a Quronic whistle, and its been a while that they no longer make public announcements like missing passengers and lost items from the PA for this reason.

Funeral of Akbar Rahmanian, College Professor, in Jaharam.

Peykeiran: today at the funeral of Akbar Rahmanian, a young College Professor and computer engineer who was shot and killed in cold blood by an agent of the Intelligence Ministry, the city's residents and students who had come from as far away as Tehran and Esfehan announced their disgust and rage at this crime by the the regime's elements. The regime's various forces and elements such as Basij and the militia had occupied the innocent grounds of Jaharam, and were guarding and surrounding the funeral processions since this morning. They had threatened Akbar Rahmanian's family and friends, telling them to avoid any criticisms and protests today during the funeral or else they will face severe consequences. Officials at the Jaharam Intelligence Ministry said "That Akbar Rahmanian's murder was an accident as a result of the preparations for 18 Tir". This explanation has angered the people of Jaharam and other cities even more. According to reports, the murderer is someone called Youseffi who is one of the most notorious criminal mercenaries working for the Intelligence ministry of Jaharam.

......................................

This is another very sad tragedy Sad

My deepest condolences to the family, friends and students of this young Professor.

May he rest in Peace.

May justice, truth and goodness prevail in Iran!

Jomhouryeh Eslami (Islamic Republic) Newspaper reported that a blind beggar participated in organising 18 Tir event this year.

Jomhouryeh Eslami (Islamic Republic) Newspaper reported that a blind beggar participated in organising the 18 Tir event this year. They additionally claimed that, 1: This year, unlike perevious years, there was no observance of 18 Tir. 2: Previous parliamentarians who would show their solidarity for 18 Tir were removed from Parliament this year, and were silenced by the new parliament therefore there was no observance of 18 Tir this year, and society has become peaceful as a result. 3: Between 19 and 22 hundred hours groups of westernised men and women with poor veils were seen walking around Enghelab avenue but the Hezbollah forces successfully prevented them from forming any gatherings 4: A group of hooligans and thugs who looked like they wanted to start trouble were arrested on Enghelab avenue by the militia including some women and foreignors such as Arabs without IDs 5: A blind beggar on Enghelab avenue who plays the flute for money was enticed by troublemakers into playing the Ey Iran song as others joined in singing it, but moments after they started the song they were silenced with the words dying in their throats 6: Between 17 to 22 hundred hours there was a major traffic jam on Enghelab avenue with many pedestrians who had come to witness chaos, but they were forced to leave empty handed, and none of the cars dared to honk their horns or flash their lights this year. The milita took pictures of their license plates 7: For 18 Tir this year, in direct opposition to foreign satelite media's recommendations there were no slogans and no flyers distributed.

The above bragging epic of brutality and repression by the IRI's official newspaper is particulary disgusting. When the dam bursts, the ensuing flood will be very immediate, forceful, great, and powerfull. At this point, the Mullah$ are guarnateeing it.

The French Communist Paper "Omneeyeteh" (?) of Paris wrote, despite the regime's brutal martial law and attempts at preventing any gatherings, thousands of young boys and girls managed to gather Thursday night in front of Tehran university and Vali Asr avenue. Anti Riot forces, Intelligence agents, Revolutionary Guards, and plainclothes agents many of whom were equipped with machine guns and guns attacked the crowds several times to prevent any protests. To prevent phone calls, they had cutoff all phone connections in the area. Helicopters were flying over the area. They also mentioned that Thursday afternoon there was a protest on Gisha street in western Tehran, where many were arrested. There were clashes on Northern Kargar street (Kargar e Shomali) between protestors and the militia who used water sprays. The paper also mentioned the Hunger Strike of Evin political prisoners in protest to the recent massive crackdown on students for 18 Tir.

Long article from a professor of sociology about how social repressions and restrictions in Iran have resulted in widespread devastating physical and psychological illness, brain drain and capital drain. He talks about epidemic levels of depression, hopelessness, irresponsibility, apathy and the list goes on. Another very alarming article about the destruction of society by the Islamic Republic.

Short News: Head of the Kermanshah Judiciary committed suicide in an apartment building where according to officials he was having illicit affairs. When he found out that the Judiciary was coming for him, he killed himself.

Hardliner Keyhan News is outraged that in Babolsar people are taking music classes with a Bahai, and they are demanding that the officials immediately put a stop to this.

Farhad Nazeri who was accused of 'insulting the leader' activities from 18 Tir 3 years ago and was imprisoned and released, has filed a complaint that he has not yet received his innocent verdict.

http://web.peykeiran.com/net_iran/irnewsbody.aspx?ID=16721
Emails from readers: "They always mention Ebrahim Nejad as the only victim of 18 Tir 1999, they never mention a young 18 year old rural boy who was selling stuff on the streets who had come from a small village outside Shirz and was killed senselessly during the shootings, and whose body was not even returned to his family for burial until a month later.

http://web.peykeiran.com/net_iran/irnewsbody.aspx?ID=16728
More Emails from readers: Akbar Asadi, student of Imam Mohamad Baghr Sari Industrial College, was arrested in laleh Park as a result of 18 Tir of '82 and then released. But after his release there still has been no news of him for over a year, and family and friends have not heard from him and he has disappeared.

The regime is preparing another Second Khordad Plan (the sham Reforms) in order to save itself, even though years of the sham Reforms changed nothing except for it made the rulers more strong and secure for an increase in repression, but this plan fell through after only 4 years when everyone figured it out and refused to particpate in the elections. They will use the same tactics again next year, but first they must put on a show of victimhood by the Reformists to relegitimise them. Also through social pressures they will force the people to seek release by supporting the Reformists. So for the next 4 years they will apply severe pressures in social restrictions, and then bring back the Reformists for more deception to give themselves a new lease. But the people also have a chance during these 4 years. And every 18 Tir that passes like this one is another lost opportunity. Lets not forget that the original 18 Tir started over a small matter and showed how willing people are to join in protests. So another small event could turn into something big and our students have turned their schools into centers for opposition. Come all you martyrs of the path of freedom who have not sold your faith to life.

Iranian Authorities Arrest Two Teachers' Union Leaders

July 11, 2004
Dow Jones Newswires
The Associated Press

TEHRAN -- Authorities have arrested two leaders of Iran 's teachers' trade union, which organized an unsuccessful week-long strike earlier this year, a relative and the official news agency said Sunday.

Mahmoud Beheshti Langroudi and Ali-Asghar Zatti of Iran 's Teachers' Association were detained at their homes in Tehran Saturday, the Islamic Republic News Agency reported.

"Plainclothes judicial officers took my father away Saturday after searching our home for one and half hours," Zatti's daughter, Mona, told The Associated Press.

There was no word of explanation from the authorities about the detentions.

In early March, hundreds of thousands of Iranian teachers went on strike for a week to demand unpaid salaries and equal treatment with other civil servants.

In May, Education Ministry officials accused the Teachers' Association of encouraging teachers to carry out "illegal" strikes.

In June, members of the association protested in front of parliament, chanting slogans that accused the authorities of ignoring their demands.

Iran 's 700,000 teachers have long complained their salaries are too low.

Arrest Warrant Issued For Iranian Editor, Monthly Closed Down

July 11, 2004
DPA
Khaleej Times Online

TEHERAN -- The Iranian judiciary issued an arrest warrant for the chief editor of the reformist daily Tosse’e and closed down a monthly, the news agency IRNA reported on Sunday.

The arrest warrant for Tosse’e editor Gholi Sheikhi was issued after he refused to show up at a court to answer charges of propagating against the Islamic system, IRNA said.

The judiciary also banned the reformist monthly Aftab which had allegedly published articles against the principles of Islamic rulership.

According to Iran’s Association for Press Freedom, more than 90 publications have been closed by the judiciary, 21 journalists and publishers remain in jail and more than 65 reporters have been summoned to courts on charges the association said were baseless.

Iran’s hardline judiciary, which accuses reformist press circles of trying to undermine the Islamic system and move the country toward secularism, views the press crackdown as defending Iran’s Islamic Republic.
