British financial authorities give green light for Islamic bank

http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story2&u=/afp/20040809/bs_afp/britain_islam_banking

LONDON (AFP) - Britain's financial services watchdog gave the go-ahead for the first Islamic bank in Britain to open its doors.

The Financial Services Authority's (FSA) decision means that the Islamic Bank of Britain will be able to open its first branch in London next month, offering its clients financial products respecting Islamic Sharia law.

Its headquarters will be in Birmingham, England's second city. Other branches are planned for Birmingham and Leicester, cities in central England with a large Muslim minority.

The Islamic Bank of Britain (IBB) will allow 1.8 million British Muslims access to banking strictly in line with Islamic law. The Sharia bans the payment of interest on loans and investment in sectors such as alcohol and tobacco.

To deal with the no-interest payment rule, the IBB will itself buy the assets sought by its clients then sell them back at a fixed price via monthly payments.

"As Islamic banking operates without the use of interest, the products that we offer our customers are structured in a different way to those in conventional banks," explained IBB chief Michael Hanlon.

Iqbal Asaria, president of the Muslim Council of Great Britain's economic committee, hailed the news as "a watershed event in the history of Islamic finance in the UK".

"It marks the beginning of the launch of fully regulated Sharia-compliant products for the Muslim community," he added.

Standard Chartered to open branch in Iran

...Or How the British Conduct War Against Islamic Terrorism!

Reuters
Mon 9 August, 2004

TEHRAN (Reuters) - Standard Chartered will open a branch on Iran's island of Kish in the Gulf in October, making it the first foreign lender to open a branch in the Islamic Republic, an Iranian official says.

The Asia-focused UK bank announced in July that it had received a licence to start work on Kish, one of Iran's free trade zones.

"A Standard Chartered branch office will start activities in Kish from mid-October," Mohammad Ali Najafi an economic official on Kish told state television on Monday.

Standard Chartered (STAN.L) is targeting the Middle East and south Asia for growth in consumer and corporate banking and is one of three banks granted a licence to open in Iraq. The bank also has a branch in Afghanistan and has said it might open in Libya.

Foreign investors have taken a growing interest in Iran, a country of 67 million people, since approval of a foreign investment protection law in 2002.

Mullahs should thank US as well:

their many "bonyads: Bonyad Alavi , etc" and Funda and Bank accounts are still very much up and running like a clock in support of their campaigns and propaganda, etc, INSIDE USA!

they could not come to power without US president and administrative support, and millions of dollars worth HARD CASH in US dollars!
(ofcourse the Brits were the Mediators then, but non the less...)

Mullahs should thank US for the BIG TALKS upfront, and BIG DEALS behind the scenes!
(Rafsanjani INC. Products are found in every single US City!) + (Oil Trades) + (Regime Mafia Investors), etc.

They should also be thankful for their Embassies are still open and their thugs travel with diplomatic Immunity, and their "intellectual" thugs are freely running around wildly inside US and very much active politically.

AND FINALLY MULLAHS SHOULD THANK USA FOR BOMBING IRAN,

CAUSE THAT'LL ENSURE THEIR SURVIVAL. AND DAMAGE THE NATION AND COUNTRY THEY WERE SENT TO DESTROY!

heh, you're funny.

Anyhow - you're right - Rafsanjani Inc. is connected to all the banks in the world. Makes you wonder how justice will ever be served - but trust it will!!!! Either this life-time or the next, justice will be done - and freedom will be achieved by the Iranian people!

I don't know, it was on the iranian.com site.

The poll reads:

In your opinion, what individual or organisation has the most power in Iran

Ali Khamenei 18.37%
Akbar Rafsanjani 26.53%
Khatami & His Govt. 2.04%
Ayatollah Mesbah Yazdi 2.04%
Ayatollah Janati 6.12%
Guardian Council 4.08%
The Armed Forces 2.04%
Qom Seminaries 8.16%
The British Ambassador in Tehran 28.57 Shocked

Note: You know an Islamic Republic dictaroship is not a South Aemrican one from the percentage of power the armed forces and the military have, just 2%
