ACTION Request For 22, 23, and 24 of November 2005 By
International Committee to save the Archeological Sites of Pasargad Plains
http://www.savepasargad.com/Pages/Action-November%2022-Eng.htm
To:
Signatories of Committee’s Open Letter and all those who show concerns about human cultural heritage
A vast number of people all over the world are aware that we, as a force comprised of tens of thousands of the most educated and active members of our societies, both inside and outside Iran, have requested the postponement of the hasty plans of starting the operational phase of the Sivand Dam in Pars province of Iran. We have also requested the world authorities to take necessary action to preserve those archeological sites that are being submerged by this dam that hold valuable cultural heritages of the world. Unfortunately, we have not received any response to our requests, nor have we seen any reaction on the part of these organizations toward Iranian authorities. In the meantime, some of Iranian officials talk about the postponement of this plan while authorities at the Ministry of Energy, who show no respect for these sites, formally declare that they will initiate the operational phase on the anniversary of the return of Ayatollah Khomeini to Iran on the first day of February 2006. This means that we have only two month and few days to this deadline.
These facts show that we are faced with an unreasonable and anti-history will and have no choice but to resort to different action that would catch the attention of world authorities to this horrendous action of the Government of Iran.
Upon the above premises, this Committee has decided to designate three days from 22nd to 24th of November (which coincides with the ancient Iranian festivities of Azargaan) as “Days of International Vigilance to Save Pasargad”. We ask all the signatories of this Committee’s letter (dated 8/31/2005) to UNESCO and other relevant world organization and all those who have concerns and regards for the human cultural heritage to execute one or some of the following actions in those days:
1. Send faxes and e-mails to UNESCO headquarter in Paris.
2. Call their offices
3. Personally visit UNESCO’s offices all over the world
4. Write letter to and call your local newspapers and radio-TV stations, both Iranian and non-Iranian.
It is of prime importance that we can attract the public opinion and the attention of all media to this serious danger that threatens the history of ancient Iran. We should explain to everyone what is at steak. It is important that our voice is reflected under the skies of the world and is heard by as many people as possible, not leaving one person unaware of this looming catastrophe.
We have prepared a text that you can use, with or without modification, and fax or e-mail it to UNESCO.
Let us show our spiritual strength to International authorities, through our united action, once more during these three days. We have decided to continue our actions even beyond those three days until International authorities look into this matter and make sure that no danger threatens this precious human cultural heritage.
With regards
International Committee to save the Archeological Sites of Pasargad Plains

Dear Sir,
As a concerned citizen of the world community, I am horrified to learn that you have ignored the request made to you via an open letter by the International Committee to Save the Archeological Sites of Pasargad (ICSASP) dated 10/10/2005 in order to stop the horrendous act of cultural catastrophe that is upon the Pasargad site in Iran . I am joining thousands of other concerned citizens of the world to bring this urgent issue to your attention again.
As you know, Pasargadae was the first dynastic capital of the Achaemenid Empire, founded by Cyrus II, the Great, in Pars, homeland of the Persians, in the 6th century BC. Its palaces, gardens, and the mausoleum of Cyrus are outstanding examples of the first phase of royal Achaemenid art and architecture and exceptional testimonies of Persian civilization.
The time is short. The dam will begin its operations at the beginning of February 2006 and your active response to this situation is urgently requested and expected by all responsible members of the human society.
Sincerely, |
|
