Welcome to Eurabia

The respected Islamic historian Bat Ye’or has coined a fascinating word. That word is ‘Eurabia’. It describes the revolting marriage between Western Europe and the Muslim Middle East. Why has Europe climbed into bed with anti-West Muslims? Bat Ye’or says it is because Europe dreads losing her main source of oil. She also asserts that Europe fears terrorism, and climbing into bed with Islam will hopefully appease militant Arabs. There is another motive. It would be unwise to downplay Europe’s craving to form a power alliance with the Muslim world, a European-Arab axis that will stand up to the American-Israel axis in the region.

In her recent book—also titled Eurabia, Bat Ye’or makes a strong case that Europe has simply caved, surrendering to the threat of Islamic terrorism. Also, there can be no doubt that what drew European leaders to the Sheiks in the first place was oil. A very subtle extortion keeps Europe in Arab pockets. Back in 1973, following the Syrian and Egyptian Yom Kippur war with Israel, the Arab nations imposed an oil embargo on the U.S. and Europe. This frightened the French and Germans whose vulnerability is the price of Middle East oil. Since then, Western Europe, particularly the French and Germans, determined to form an alliance with the Middle East oil-producing countries. They did not want to be blackmailed again with oil, as they were in 1973.

Europe, desperate to please the Arabs, formed the EAD (Euro-Arab dialogue), which began as a French initiative composed of Arab League countries and members of the then European Community. This Euro-Arab marriage has become the channel for Arab immigration to Europe and a host for anti-American sentiment in both Europe and the Middle East. Americans greatly underestimate Europe’s cozy relationship with the desert oil-producing nations of the world.

The obvious conclusion one can reach about Europe’s friendship with the Sheiks is that Europe is not a fan of Israel. For decades, Europe swooned over the godfather of modern terrorism—Yassar Arafat. Among Europe’s elite, Arafat was considered a champion of liberty and a great patriot of the Palestinian cause. One of the major divides between America and Europe is Europe’s support of radical Palestine versus U.S. support of Israel. Deepening the divide is the war in Iraq that has put many European countries in the position of having to make a choice between America and their hot-tempered Arab “friends”.

The war against Iraq has caused a great wringing of the hands all across Europe. Europeans agonize that American aggression will harm the Euro-Arab alliance. Europe does not like President Bush, and most Europeans hate America’s intrusion in Iraq. Yet, European leaders, at least some of them, have supported America’s war on terror; but their support comes grudgingly. Of course, bubbling under the surface and always about to boil over is Europe’s large indigenous Muslim population that is prone to express its anger via suicide bombings or inter-city uprisings.

No Go Zones
A significant number of European cities find themselves drowned in a wave of Arab cultural and religious fervor. Increasingly, there are pockets of Islamic control within European cities—places where even local European police dare not walk. Tony Blankley, in his book, The West’s Last Chance, reveals the insanity of the situation:

“Muslim parts of Paris, Rotterdam and other European cities are already labeled no-go zones for ethnic Europeans, including armed policemen. As the Muslim populations— and their level of cultural and religious assertiveness — expand, European geography will be ‘reclaimed’ for Islam. Europe will become pockmarked with increasing numbers of little Fallujahs that will be effectively impenetrable by anything much short of a U.S. Marine division.” “Thus, as the … fundamentalism expands into European (and perhaps to a lesser extent American) Muslim communities, not only will Islamic cultural aggression against a seemingly passive and apologetic indigenous population increase, but the zone of safety and support for the actual terrorists will expand as well.”

Western Europe has almost as many foreign-born citizens as the United States. France’s Muslim population is growing rapidly—already it is 10 % of the population. In Brussels, the most common name for a newborn is Mohammed. Renowned Islamic historian Bernard Lewis has said that Muslims will have majorities in populations in Europe by the end of the 21st century.

The Appeasing French
France suffers the biggest headache of all European nations. Not that long ago, Muslim rioting in France caused the destruction of over 7,000 vehicles; over 300 towns were impacted by the rioting. Nearly half of those arrested were teenagers with a Muslim background. Europe is finding itself in a major dilemma. They want to maintain close ties with the Arab world because they are so dependent on Arab oil; yet, Europe wants to crack down on Muslim immigration and the increasing trend of Muslims turning sections of cities into strongholds for effective breeding grounds for future Islamic terrorists.

France, for too long, has played the appeasement card with the Arab world. No country in Europe has worked harder at courting world Islamic favor. France is home to thousands of Muslims who despise the French. Foolishly, France continues to hand out free medicine, free education, and free welfare checks to those who bite her in the hand. France’s appeasement of Arab terrorists over the years and her anti-American gestures have sickened Americans. If you recall it was France that led the way in opposing America’s involvement with Iraq. Yasser Arafat—one of histories most despicable terrorists—was adored and pampered in France. It was no surprise that Arafat chose Paris as his place to die. One only wonders if the French will ever learn that appeasement emboldens the thugs that seek to do them harm.

Not all French citizens believe in appeasement: in a country where politicians pride themselves in the subtle art of evasion, Nicolas Sarkozy, France’s interior minister, makes it a point to be blunt and perfectly clear. He told reporters that the rioters were SCUM and THUGS. Many called for Sarkozy to apologize for calling the rioters SCUM, but he would not back down. When asked again who was behind the violence, he shot back, “thugs and scum are rioting and I stand by it and underline it.” It looks like Eurabia is not a marriage made in heaven.

In the meantime Muslim extremists will use immigration to Europe as the perfect Trojan horse to weaken European resolve and make Europe submissive to Muslim demands. Eventually, prophecy tells us that Europe will lash back at the Muslim Middle East, actually invading a score of countries in that part of the world (Daniel 11:40-45). Here at the Wonderful World Tomorrow web site we will continue to watch the boiling cauldron that is Islamic jihad.
