Dears,
This is the text of the letter I faxed today to the Senator.
Please do the same.
We must make ourselves heard.
Thanks,
Hashem

Dear Senator Specter,
We, the Iranians all over the world, have been following the recent, regrettable, news regarding your position towards the Islamic Republic of Iran.
The latest developments within the Islamic Republic of Iran show a fast deterioration of goodwill amongst the Iranians at large.
Upcoming Parliamentarian elections have thrown the IRI into abyss. There is a repetition of circus going on between the, the Guardian Council and the so-called 'reformists' who support President Khatami. Never the less, both are well known undemocratic as well as a hazard to the world peace.
Ted Koppel's "Nightline" on Thursday, January 29th, aired a report from within Iran (called: INSIDE IRAN), where every person interviewed, from students, workers and even some clergy who are not part of the establishment, openly and without reservation stated their disapproval for the continuing circus of the IRI to eliminate the candidates and sustain the Mullah regime intact.
People are disheartened and they no longer are satisfied with make ups, such as women showing a bit of hair flock, or going to parties in private locations. They are asking for political freedom, freedom of choice and speech, secularism. It is obvious that the younger generation has paid a high price for voicing dissent, therefore apathy has set in. Journalists are either, being killed in custody (Ms. Kazemi, the Canadian Journalist), or held in prisons and dissidents are silently being taken care, with not a word in the Western media. We, self exiled Iranians try to speak for our oppressed country Men/Women, got no way to gathered, and the EU (including Great Britain) are toying their part of greed.
At this very sensitive time, when the Iranian people are shouting to change the regime with strikes at factories and teachers' sit-ins and other non violent strategies, U.S. Senators and Congressmen have met with Iran's U.N. Ambassador Javad Zarif in Washington D.C., suggesting a visit by a Congressional delegation to Iran!
What hint are you sending to the people of Iran, who were encouraged to speak out and aim for regime change when President Bush made it clear that he stood by the people and against the regime, which he had listed amongst the 'Axis of Evil' two years ago ?
Mr. Zarif is an excellent diplomat for the IRI and was sent to the United Nations for his diplomatic skills. He is also a skilled lobbyist for the IRI. You may remember that he was one of the student gang who took American hostages and held them for 444 days! Now he is on a mission sent by the Iranian regime which has been spending a tremendous amount of money to lobby certain elements within the Iranian community there in the U.S., as well as influencing some members of Congress by participating to the fund-raising for them.
You are a congress man, which is supposed to be patriotic, is meeting with the American Hostage taker a sign of patriotism? Is dispatching a congressional team to the world known terrorist state, is a sign of patriotism? Is any contact between the American dignitaries & IRI regime, which is after the development of WMD, is the sign of American patriotism?
It is not AMERICA which needs the IRI regime, it is they who need a semblance of ties with the United States so as to increase their own influence in the region and retain their own usurped power over the Iranian people. This does not fit well in the ongoing war against terrorism, nor for establishment of democracy in that region!
You rather should help the Iranians fighting this theocracy with moral support, than wine & dine with their terrorist Hostage Taker representative,
Mr. Javad Zarif.
Remember that once the people of Iran are free and secular, they will rejoin the civilized world and fight alongside America & Western powers against terrorism and for the stability of their neighbours.
Respectfully,
H. Hakimi,
Oslo,

Supporting this strong letter in opposition to Senator Arlen Specter's proposal by fellow Activist Mr. Hasem Hakimi former Imperial Iranian Ambassador to Norway (Pre-'79 Disaster). Highly recommending to Fax or Email it to the Senator himself. Let him know that appeasing terrorist regimes will be disastrous to our efforts in the War on Terror, especially when the Iranian people are counting on 100% support from America. In this case, sleeping with the enemy will truly undermine any hope for democracy and freedom in the Middle East.
Contact Senator Specter:
Telephone: 202-224-4254
Fax: 202-228-1229
Email: arlen_specter@specter.senate.gov
FYI: The Islamic Regime's Ambassador to the UN, who met with Senator Specter and others last week, is Mr. Javad Zarif, who just so happens to be a member of the student gang who in 1979 took American diplomats hostage for 444 days. (Just some food for thought)
