RadioFarda's Elections Coverage -- 2/20/2004

In the morning of the elections day, Tehran streets are empty, and it feels like a New Year holiday, Tehran-based lawyer Mohammad-Hossein Aghasi tells Radio Farda. Unlike previous elections, during which voting centers were so crowded that people had to wait on line for hours in order to vote, this morning no traffic could be seen in several voting centers, he adds. The voice of the people, which turned into a loud but silent cry in the empty streets today, should be heard by the authorities, before these silent cries turn into a revolution; which as our people and people everywhere in the world have experienced, always accompanies death and destruction. The low turnout today is a message, which I hope the authorities will hear, Aghasi says. (Fereydoun Zarnegar)

•Tehran-based reporter Iman Azimi says election officials at an uptown voting center told him the voter turnout appears to be lower than that of last year's municipal elections, which was the lowest in the history of the Islamic Republic. He adds that young people send text messages using their mobile phones in a campaign against voting. He adds that most young people preferred to spend their weekend (Friday) skiing or hanging out with friends on the mountains north of Tehran, a trend which was also reported by AFP in a dispatch from Tehran.

Several people reached by our reporters in the Kurdistan province cities says only the government employees and the armed forces' personnel appeared to be voting. A Tabriz voter says soldiers at an army barracks where his brother serves were told to turn in their ID cards so that ballots could be filled in their names.

•In Khatunabad, of the Kerman province, the scene of bloody labor protests in which the special police forces killed four demonstrators and wounded 150 last month, a resident tells Radio Farda of almost no turnout.

•In Marivan, Kurdistan, where angry demonstrators ransacked local campaign headquarters of conservative candidates last week, a resident tells Radio Farda that people curse anyone who votes, adding that the cities of the Kurdistan province, which are close to the Iraqi border, have received anti-election propaganda literature distributed by exile anti-regime opposition groups.

•Khoramabad-based journalist Abbas Dalvand says voter turnout was low, and those who voted were motivated by tribal, not political, interests.

•Rasht-based Reporter Kambiz Karimi said in some Gilan province cities, conservative candidates had pre-paid voters, nevertheless, he adds, the turnout is expected to be lower than 12 percent.

•Shiraz reporter Farid Yasamin says, since only one reformist candidate had been approved to run for the city's Majles seat, low voter turnout was predictable.

•Tehran-based journalist Kiarash Tehrani says most government employees and factory workers voted to avoid being confronted by their bosses at work.

Yeah right!

The regime will claim slightly more than 50% turnout in support of hardliners in an attempt to present a palusible (albeit slight) victory! It will be another lie, like the rest of the lies from the last 25 years.

This lie however will perhaps be one of the most boldfaced yet. But that will not stop the self-destructive idiocy of the west, from acting out another foolish error in judgement! The EU and US factions hellbent on kissing Mullah ass, will find new ways of sweeping this electoral disaster under the rug, for greed has no shame nor conscience, and it usually makes pretty major stupid mistakes Laughing

The result:
No matter how much the Moolah$ and their European and US appeasers want to pretend that the Mullah$ are like the Chinese, they ain't! They neither have the ideological dedication nor the efficieny, they simply have brute force, and that has its limits. The Chinese model utilizes brute force in addition to intelligenct and efficient rule!

The only thing that had been keeping the lid on Iran's steaming and bursting at the seams kettle was the illusion of the sham Reforms. Without it the kettle can go at anytime.

Fundemental differences with the Chinese:

I've said this before and I'll say it again, as bad as things may be in China, atleast people get to have their simple joys, dance, drink wine, listen to their music legally, and in most of the cities wear what they want! Their television has decent entertainment, and their media is not promoting an atmospohere of mourning day and night! In Cuba as bad as the political repression may be, the Cubans still get to have their beer and dance on the beach! In the old Soviet Union, Vodka was cheaper than bread for a reason. While heroin is cheaper than cigarets for the same reason in Iran (also because the Mullah$ make a pretty penny from its sales), the Iranians don't have the social freedoms the Russians had under the old USSR!

The Mullah infrastructure is not the Chinese one, no matter how much the desperate Europeans and US Mullah appeasers want to pretend it is.

Final Outcome

Stuck between a rock and a hard place.

If the Mullah$ grant more freedoms in a bid to bribe the population, that freedom "be mardom roo meede" and thus speedup the revolution. The same happened to the Shah, the more freedoms the Shah granted, the more bold the opposition to him became. After the Shah granted freedom for political parties to form in the summer of 1978, the perennial **** hit the fan. This is a lesson that has not been lost on the Mullahs. But if they don't loosen the reigns, they risk a massive explosion, which the Mullahs have been very carefuly avoiding, knowing full well that if you hit too hard they'll hit back even harder!

Either way, they and their European buddies are damned! Iran will blow, and the EU and US appeasers will have a hell of alot more than just egg on their faces !

Prince Charles can Kiss the Mullah$ asses from here to eternity and it will not change the fact that any country supporting the terrorist and despotic Mullahcracy at this point is only purchasing tickets for the Titanic!

As for Prince Charles ... that was the single most embarrassing gaffe by the UK till date, even more embarressing that Ayatollah Straw's neverending Photo Ops kissing Mullah ass!

The Prince Charles gaffe though will come to symbolise the shameful way in which the UK and the EU came to embrace a genocidal and terrorist regime out of greed in the history books!
Laughing

Shame on the UK, France and Germany for continuing to support terrorism and Genocide out of Greed !

Welcome to the Moolah$ Titianic cruise!

Hi Azadi Very Happy

I've been having some problems, which I cannot go into it. Suffice it to say, I had to leave for a while. Unfortunately, I may not be able to post much longer, and may need to leave again. However the election was an opportunity for posting.

Either way, I am confidant that the ball is in motion, and come hail come storm, makes no difference, the terrorist Mullah$ are on their way out. Even if the Queen of England and Dubbya showed up in Tehran for Photo Ops kissing Mullah ass in a pathetic bid to legitimise mass murdering terrorist Mullah$, these guys areNOT staying in power!

PS. You were doing a great job on Mossadegh as usual with Junior again, Laughing Its lost on him and other brainwashed types like him, but excellent education for all the other bright and open minds.

In closing once again I would like to add:

Today, after all the debates and the research, I can quite confidently say, that the Pahlavis were the best damn thing that happened to Iran, and the Mullah$ and their Jebhe Melli/Leftist groupies were the absolute worst thing that happned to Iran.

I also believe the same holds true for the future of Iran. Constitutional Monarchy led by Reza Pahlavi will be the best way to rebuild Iran inside and outside! Without it, things may improve slightly, but nowhere near as well as they could under a CM with RP as the symbolic head, projecting a new image of Iran to the world!

Either way the Mullah$ are goners. The question is : will Iran endup a democratic, secular, progressive and prospersous and dignified nation amongst nations under a Consitutional Monarchy headed by RP, or will Iran endup as another corrupt, inefficient Republic (albeit a secular one) like the dozens of meaningless so called 'democratic' Republics in Africa and Middle East?!

Welcome back, miss your deep, and analytical posts. Minor comments “While heroin is cheaper than cigarettes for the same reason in Iran (also because the Mullah$ make a pretty penny from its sales),” I am not sure it is cheap because the Mullah$ make a pretty penny from its sales, most probably clerics are losing money. It seems this strategy is very similar to what England did in Abadan, Iran before Reza Shah and after Reza Shah in order to weaken Iranian society for taking Free Oil (part of history). Now with direction from Ayatollah Straw and support of the England Secret Society (Prince Charles and his father are the key active members of such society) which are well connected to Mullahs network are planning to destroy Iranian youth and to weaken their resistance against Clerical Regime for FREE IRAN, they are using cheap Opium and other drugs as part of the old England prescription for controlling brilliant Iranian youth and society, history tell us that the British Empire has used the same technique in India. Iranian people should watch England in the Persian Gulf region and Iraq.
Destroying Iranian society is part of their game plan = Combination of the Sex Slave Jihad Strategy(http://www.activistchat.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=1146) + Cheap Drug + Youth political prisoners, torture and Executions + Clerics were sending children on minefield during Iran/Iraq ....

How can we put maximum pressure on British government to stop their dirty tricks in Iran?

Cyrus, I think at the end of the day, it rests in the hands of the Iranian people to commite General Overwhelming STRIKE - and then the duty of US to support them.. Critical Mass will by that time be met and the Euro countries will be forced to concede!!!!
