Terrorism International Precedes September 11

It’s the work of Islamic Terrorists!

On March 11, after the bloody explosions in Madrid, a certain number of commentators immediately blamed the tragedy on the Islamists. This initial assessment was not based on secret documents or evidence to which they would not have had access, but was rooted in knowledge, experience and good analysis. Given these strong foundations, for them it was clear that the Madrid disaster, the theory of “The murder of all and the destruction of everything everywhere” put into practice, could only have been the work of Islamic terrorists. The style and scope of this massacre were identical to those in New York, Washington, Bali, Casablanca, Riyadh, Istanbul, Karbala and Baghdad.

Long before the disaster of the Twin Towers, however, Iranians had committed another event to their collective memory of history, one which the world still wants to erase: The Rex movie theater (“Cinema Rex”) in the city of Abadan. At that time too there were those who warned that it was the work of religious terrorists. It seems that in the “struggle of the pious”, setting fire to movie theaters and other public places was and continues to be, based on their own confession, of some significance. A year after the event, on December 13, 1979, in an interview with Keyhan newspaper Ayatollah Lahuti said in praising the struggle of the clerics: “During the reign of the devil [the Shah] the cinema in the holy city of Quom was blown up by the command of Seyed Ahmad Khomeini.” Had they not done this at the time they would certainly have refuted “the struggle.”

The world must recall that contrary to what the West pretends, the terrorist acts in Madrid in no way present a new “dimension”. This form of terror had existed for many years, but not in Europe or the United States. This “terror”, twenty three years before September 11, was equal in “dimension” when it burned alive 400 human beings and the “civilized world” not only did not show its interest, but only a few months afterwards gave official recognition to the first Islamic fundamentalist and terrorist regime founded by the perpetrators in our wretched country.

Lessons From Spain

Of course, a terrorist is a terrorist and although it’s not impossible for Basque separatists (ETA) to cooperate or communicate with Islamic terrorists, the great error committed by Spain’s conservative government was that after official and convincing denials by both the ETA and its political wing, not only did it blame them anyway, but that with its announcements to the press, various ambassadors and even the security services of other states and the UN, it also conveyed the false information to them as well. The Spanish government supposed that if it disclosed the involvement of the Islamists in the affair only three days prior to the elections in the parliament (March 14), the opposition party that was against the war and the presence of Spanish troops in Iraq would win at the ballots. Even without the March 11 tragedy it was possible for the Socialists to have won with a less sweeping effect, for according to previous public opinion polls about 90% of Spaniards were against the war in Iraq. But the March 11 disaster on the one hand led to a great voter turnout, and on the other made the defeat of the conservative party inevitable, although it will maintain a presence as a powerful minority party.

After eight years of service and despite its firm efforts against terrorism, the Spanish government sacrificed truth for its own political interests. Perhaps truthfulness would not have changed the outcome of the elections, but at least the government would not have been forced after its defeat to justify a mistake that was basically not necessitated. But the electoral reaction of the people of Spain, which led to the downfall of their government, signified to the terrorists that it is possible to murder a nation’s citizens yet have the same come to the streets to renounce the government that does not please the Islamic terrorists. It was based upon this alarming conclusion that the Islamic terrorists with utmost impudence declared a “cease fire” exactly a week after the Madrid bombings. They declared that they’ll stop operations to see whether the new government keeps its promise to pull Spanish troops from Iraq.

This threat bears another important message: They now not only believe they can create rifts between open societies united to combat terrorism, but that they can even have an instrumental role in the internal politics of states and the shuffling of administrations. Acting on emotion and the political interests of a group, the people of Spain and their political parties created an opening for the terrorists with consequences so dangerous that if not secured as soon as possible by a sober policy and unity among the ranks of “civilization against terror”, one can expect to observe the occurrence of events the likes of which have not yet been calculated. Putting pressure on governments by acts of terror for some political objective is nothing new. Still, the outcome of the Spanish elections will motivate the terrorists to try, from now on, to influence the internal policy of other nations and to create more chaos in the existing state of international relations.

The first lesson to be learned by free societies and nations is that the Islamists do not need any particular justification for terrorist acts, including the war with Iraq or cooperation with the United States. Take a look at France and Germany and observe the security measures they’re now undertaking. The opposition by France’s conservative government and Germany’s socialist government to the war against Iraq and the absence of their troops in that country is clearly no secret. But if they did not take part in the Iraq campaign they were and are present in Afghanistan. They are participating in the reconstruction of Iraq. Besides, there is the issue of “the Hijab.” Even in the absence of these, there are the “Kafirs, Cross-worshippers, and Jews” that need to be dealt with. It is utter simplemindedness for the Europeans to suppose that because of their opposition to the war in Iraq, or relations with this or that Islamic group here and there or by permitting the Hijab in state institutions they can protect themselves from the historical and deadly animosity of the Islamists. What gives rise from the Islamic terrorist cells and units to a “terrorist international”, even with the absence of direct or specific links with each other or with Al-Qaida, is in fact their ideology and faith which is fully displayed in a sentence from a letter they released after the Madrid killings: “You love Life. We worship Death!”

This faith or creed, of which the Al-Qaida has become symbolic, is beyond “Wahabi”, “Shiite” and “Sunni”. It is this same collective faith in inevitable victory that sends a person wearing an explosive belt to a crowded place, places sacks filled with explosives in trains, and by killing of human beings endeavors to prove its Divine Truth to the world. Islamic terrorists consider their faith in this inevitable triumph higher than all material and earthly forces, and by sacrificing their life and the veneration of death pride themselves above all who love life. Their ideology is not concerned with today or tomorrow but with centuries from now when the “West” succumbs to the banner of Islam. The very idea may seem comical but what appears a comical notion could not only be serious, but can also come to fruition. Remember Iranian writer Sadegh Hedayat’s satire “Al-Ba’se Al-Islamiye Ela Al-Balad Al-Faranjiye!!!” written more than half a century ago. It does appear comical and indeed no one did take it seriously. But this bitter satire that imagined the stupidity and hypocrisy of a group of Mullahs on an “Islamic mission” to “the West” (“Al-Faranjiye”!) became a reality in our own mother nation!

Democracy’s Vulnerability

In a contradiction that has become especially apparent after the events on September 11, the structure and laws of open societies provide the ideal environment for the activity and development of ideological fundamentalists, including the Islamists. Democratic laws, founded upon human rights, liberty and tolerance are “ineffectual” against the terrorist international. What then is to be done? Curtailment of democratic laws such as those concerning immigration, education, residency, asylum, financial transactions, freedom of speech and social, cultural and political activism and even vigilance and alertness of citizens would be inconsistence with the nature of democracy. The terrorists are well aware of this “vulnerability”. It is not without reason that the majority of terrorists involved in the September 11 tragedy lived and operated in Germany and planned and organized their actions in that democratic country. And it is not without reason that most of the operations taking place in free societies are organized by individuals who’ve lived in these nations for years, having enjoyed all the advantages which these societies provide. But the hateful ideology of the Islamists knows no behavioral or moral boundaries. For this reason Western nations are seriously considering new regional and international cooperation, new security organizations, new methods in defense and safety and even a review of their respective constitutions.

Meanwhile the Middle East has become the center of the infection. Only in an infection such as this does the terrorist international find the opportunity to spread and, as it does not fear to perpetrate any atrocity, compels the world to be more sensitive than ever before about the procurement and manufacture of weapons of mass destruction by regimes that sponsor terrorism. Why is the Islamic Republic so keen to complete the construction of its nuclear reactors for “peaceful purposes?” No country, including “the three European states” which the Islamic Republic was counting on for support, could interpret such keenness or resolve as non-perilous.

This resolve is announced by a regime that is deeply rooted in terrorism, was founded through terrorism and with terror has managed to survive to this day. This regime not only provides protection for fugitive Al-Qaida terrorists, but itself sends terrorists to Afghanistan and Iraq. The world is well aware that it is only out of necessity that the Islamic Republic condemns Islamic terrorism; that it only feigns a desire to bring about peace and stability in Iraq, Afghanistan and Palestine. It will suffice to just listen to their pronouncements or the recent fiery speech of its “Spiritual Leader” on the assassination of Sheikh Yassin, the combative founder of Hamas, who himself lost his life to violence and terror, to come to these realizations. Today the West looks directly at the Islamic Republic and declares that it is not to be trusted. Where is the person who does not know that the rulers of the Islamic Republic of Iran are themselves the oldest and founding members of the terrorist international, whose hand are still red with the blood of the victims of Cinema Rex, and act of terror the likes of which are being copied today elsewhere? You have doubts?! Ask the “Spiritual Leader” Seyed Ali Khamenei who at the time, while transporting explosives to Abadan, had not yet lost his hand and was not yet called “Haji Abdallah!”

The number of those burned alive on August 19, 1978 in Abadan’s Cinema Rex falls short of that of the victims in the Twin Towers some 23 years later. At the time there was no Al-Qaida to speak of and Osama Bin Ladin was a young Wahabi from Saudi Arabia who would still have had to learn a great deal from the religious schools of Shiite Mullahs in Iran.

Dear Khorshid,
Thank-you for taking the time to do such an excellent translation of this important piece by Elahe Boghrat.

Cinema Rex and the Revolution

Cinema Rex was a horrifying act of terrorism that fueled the revolution. After the August Cinema Rex burning, more attacks continued with bombings of cinemas, bars, nightclubs and even liquor stores prompting the Shah to declare Martial Law by September of 1978. The newspapers ran stories of the Cinema Rex horror for weeks, stories of entire families whose charred remains were found huddled together in a circle.

Rumors were spread back then that the Savak had burned down Cinema Rex. These rumors incensed the masses, and recruited them into the anti Shah cause. These rumors were then presented as fact by the Mullah$ and their leftist defenders for 25 years. Many of Iran's leftist groups and even their web sites continued to blame Cinema Rex on Savak as recently as a few years ago!!!

It was ludicrous that so many people back in '78 believed that it was Savak that burned down Cinema Rex. The story was that they were showing a sensitive political film and Savak ordered everyone who was in the theater killed. Any reasonable person would have simply seen how ridiculous this propostition was. Why would people be showing a sensitive political film to an audience of families and kids on a friday afternoon (weekend matinee)? And how did this explanation jive with all the other bombings of movie theaters, bars, nightclubs and liquore stores going on at the time?! Were they also showing political films?! The answer was right there, plain and obvious to most reasonable thinking people who could clearly see that the Savak conspiracy theory was b.u.l.l.s.h.i.t. But the problem was ... sadly there weren't a whole of people like that around at the time.

Significance of the date of Cinema Rex

It is important to note the date of the Cinema Rex episode. This hideous act of terrorism was committed shortly after the Shah's landmark decision and subsequent public announcement allowing political parties to form (with the exception of Communist party). True students of history will observe, that the Shah's announcment, and the threat of various political parties forming and runing for elections, in other words democracy, sent the Mullah$ into a frenzy fearing democracy and prompting them to carry out a campaign of terrorism and armed attacks including Cinema Rex.

By September there was martial law after the August Cinema Rex, by October Zhaleh square (armed gunmen hiding out amongst the demosntrators fired at soldiers prompting them to return fire. During the provoked crossfire 80 perished (this figure was confirmed by IRI's own public investigation) but the Mullah$ and Leftists falsely claimed that thousands had perished. The Iranian Communicst web site still claims that 'thousands' perished at Jhaleh Square

The collapse 3 months later

After Zhaleh square, and as the west publicly withdrew its support of the Shah, Iran's richest emptied out their bank accounts and left Iran. By November of '78 the wealthiest had already left, they all figured it out when the west publicly withdrew its support. Most people don't realise that all of those who remained and were killed, were true patriots and nationalists.

The rats abondened ship safely by November, once the west gave its signal that it was over! The west lined up to praise 'saint' Khomeini. Ramsey Clarke of the Carter Adminstration compared Khomeini to Ghandi, Andrew Jackson of the Carter Administration called Khomeini a Saint, alongside French Philosophers like Miche Foucoult, Jean Paul and Sartre and Simone De Beauvoir et. al who lined up to admire him. They were lining up to praise the worst genocidal killer of modern Iranian history.

And who was Khomeini, the son of British spy and British Petroleum political officer A.K.A. Haji Abdollah Richardson whose job was to go native a la Laurence of Arabia and get ignorant Middle Easterners to sign over all rights to their oil wells. That is why Reza Shah kicked out Khomeini's father as a British spy, because Khomeini's father was a British spy, and Khomeini himself had sworn to kill as many Iranians as there were hairs on his son's head. His son died in a reckless car accident in Iraq, that was falsely then blamed on Savak, just like Cinema Rex!
