Israel seizes millions in Ramallah bank raids

----------------------------------

Israeli troops and secret service agents raided four Arab banks yesterday and seized $30m (£16m) in cash that they claimed had been sent by Iran, Syria and Lebanese Hizbollah militants to fund Palestinian fighters.

“The goal of this unprecedented operation in the West Bank capital of Ramallah, a government spokesman said, was "to impede the terrorist organisations' activities and reduce their financial capabilities," reports The Independent.

“He said there was a direct link between the channelling of funds and the number of attacks.

“Israel said it will donate the confiscated money to Palestinian humanitarian relief projects.”

Israel’s Haaretz gets into the nitty-gritty of exactly were the money was believed to be going.

“According to defence sources, the money came from Syria and Lebanon as well as other Arab countries and Iran, with much of the funds going to Hamas-affiliated organisations, as well as directly to Hamas, Islamic Jihad and Fatah terror cells. One account was owned by Naif Abu Sariah, a leader of the Fatah-affiliated Tanzim's military wing in Nablus.”

Bravo Israelites, That is hitting the right target!
