9karevatan, don't let the dogs of the regime get you down. We're with you one hundred percent. I am doing everything I can to get the word out to other Americans. The Iranian people WILL win this one.

Hang in there.

I'm really sorry to hear that.

Most of my friends up to 9/11 were American leftists. I shared their ideals, if not always their opinions. When I saw the towers burning, I knew everything was going to change.

I have no living family, and few close friends. It's really hard not having anyone I can talk to about current events and politics. I have a lot of "kinda" friends and acquaintances, most of them liberal, and they look at me funny whenever I talk about ANYTHING political.

Last December: "Hey, isn't it great that Saddam Hussein was caught?" Awkward silence. Then, "Uh, yeah, I guess so...."

Last night: "They're having a revolution in Iran. People are clashing with police, burning pictures of Khomeini, breaking into jails and setting prisoners free - " "Oh, that's nice. I hope everything turns out OK. Gee, look at the time, I've got to go ... "

This will be a long and lonely battle for many of us. Don't forget that WE WILL WIN in the end. It's natural that some people will fear change and try to pretend everything is OK the way it is, even if things are terrible. But that's self-defeating.

It is the pain of awareness that we are experiencing. It is the discomfort of knowing what is real, and how far the reality is from what it should be. It is also proof that we are still alive! And it is proof that we can still fight, and if we can fight, we can win.

Don't worry about it - we all have relatives who may have completely opposite viewpoints about the regime in Iran - ignore them.. They are just old, lazy, scared, and zero-compassionate.. You are doing what's right - you are fighting for freedom, a better future for all of Iran and all Iranians, a more peaceful and stable terrorist-less Middle East, which overtime will enable to the world to continue it's evolution -

Surprised I'll point out I'm 70 years old, and have seen a lot of governments rise and fall. If God is kind,I may see the Mad Mullahs dangle from their minarets !

COURAGE !!

I've met many so-called Liberals and "Progressives" - in fact my oldest brother went that route: Ardently atheistic Communist to Declared Marxist- to Ardent Socialist-to Naderite-to "Voting Democrat is as far left as I go these days"-to " Bless me Father for I have sinned. It has been 50 or more years since I walked into a church".

When debating ( if such a thing is actually possible) with a Liberal, expect:

1. A personal attack (the famous "argumentum ad hominem" )if you disagree with them;

2. A sudden change of subject if your point of view seems correct and logical-but does not match theirs.

3. "Hive thinking" and knee-jerk responses. Rolling Eyes

If I may be so bold to add
4. "Emotional Outbursts"
to this excellent list.

Another tactic is "implied consent". They imply anybody who is reasonable and/or intelligent will agree with their conclusions. For example: "Well of course we should ignore the Iranian activists. That's a given. "

One could also draw attention to their "attractive" speech habits...

1. Statements must be made in as "ponderous" a matter as possible.

2. Whenever possible, one should show agreement by saying: " Yes. Yes.
This is important. This is very important !"

...And their great desire to "correct" others : " Are you going to eat that ? Why don't you just inject lard into your arteries ? "

Very Happy I almost forgot one especially noxious "liberal" ( I use quotes because they aren't really liberal ! ) tactic: Reponse to the written word.

If You were to write : "Today is the first day of Spring." , and a liberal disagreed with you,the "correct" way for the liberal to respond would be with an overwhelming flood of words-including quotes and annotations from as many obscure sources as possible.

In short, the response to your simple declarative sentence might easily be 2 or 3 pages of dull prose : designed to roll over you like a tidal wave ! Wink

Why do you hang out with hezbollahis? Believe me, we all have people like that in our families (well most of us do anyways). Some of us even have relatives who are a part of this regime. Evil or Very Mad But it doens't mean we listen to their crap. Those people are bad for your health. You stay away from them. Just say NO to hezbollah!

This is for Asher:

Hey you can always talk to us about politics. We never get tired of politics (and most of us are sick of that liberal crap too). Smile

Azadeh, thanks for your support and thanks for cheering me up! Kinda puts my little gripes in perspective. I can honestly say I have no hezbollahis in my family! Very Happy I will count my blessings from now on.

Truly remarkable courage by all who are resisting the regime and fighting back. I understand that many people have friends and/or family still involved with the regime. This must be really hard. I'm with you.
