Following the recognition of 903 Sassanid words in the language of Maymand residents, experts have concluded the language of these people has barely changed since 2,000 years ago, mainly because of the isolation of their helmet after the Arab invasion in the seventh century.

Experts working with the renovation project of the village have managed to recognize and categorize these words after conversing with the secluded people. “Some of these words are purely Persian and free of Arabic influences,” said Farhnaz Firozehchian, linguist in charge of the word recognition plan, citing such examples as “Fal” for “Dastmal” (handkerchief) and “Pa-Cheragh” for a special lantern burning animal fat.

Firozehchian intends to compile a report and submit it to the Iranian Language Association by September and then continue her pet project with some academic linguists.

Maymand is a village in Kerman Province, south of Iran and its inhabitants live in cave-like houses dug into mountains.

The Sassanids (224-642 A.D.) established an empire roughly within the frontiers achieved by the Achaemenids, with the capital at Ctesiphon. They consciously sought to resuscitate Iranian traditions and to obliterate Greek cultural influence. Their rule was characterized by considerable centralization, ambitious urban planning, agricultural development, and technological improvements.

Sassanid rule and the system of social stratification were reinforced by Zoroastrianism, which became the state religion. The Zoroastrian priesthood became immensely powerful. The later Sassanids were weakened by economic decline, heavy taxation, religious unrest, rigid social stratification, the increasing power of the provincial landholders, and a rapid turnover of rulers. These factors facilitated the Arab invasion.

Dear Librator

Thank-you for posting this important discovery. There is only one statement in the above article I strongly disagree with:

The above statement ignores the close to 100 year war with the Byzantine empire or the Romans which devastated both civilisations through massive destruction, usurping of important resources, famine, and plague weakening both empires, the Roman and the Persian, and thus paving the way for the Islamic invasion. Any historical analysis that fails to note the effects of this devastating 100 year war (60 years of acutal conflict) as the primary cause for the Islamic invasion is frankly revisionist history, propoganda, and totally skewed in my opinion.

The IRI and their bankrupt intellectual defenders have been promoting this nonesense for 25 years, that the corruption of the Sassanians led to their demise in the hands of Islam, and that the people in Iran embraced Islam. Both are gibberish. The Sassanid empire was devastated after the costly and devastating multigernational war with the Romans. When Ctisphon the Persian capital was attacked by the marauding barbaric Arab hordes, the Persian royal army was at the frontiers fighting the Romans, they arrived back in Ctisphon 3 weeks late, to find the city utterly destoyed by the Arabs who stole everything, based on the commands of their thieving bandit prophet Mohamad, and everyone massacred!

This is what I mean when I say, that they have been promoting this revisionist history crap for 25 years! Its now time to expose this propoganda for what it is, and deal with the facts. The number one reason for the success of the Arab Islamic invasion was the total weakening and devastation of the Persian and Byzantine empires due to 100 years of war, famine and plague! The Arabs took advantage of this weakness.

Dear Spenta,
Since the "Iranian Cultural Heritage News Agency" is probably affiliated with the IRI it does not come as a surprise that their article is a "little" (!) biased, but nonetheless it glads me that we still have compatriots inside Iran who speak our ancient language which is pure Persian. I hope that one day we will be able to replace all the ugly arabic words that have infested our vocabulary (due to the arab occupation and mollah's rule for 1400 years!) with pure Persian words!

I mean why shouldn't we when we have a better alternative! Why should we stick to something that is foreign, does not go with our culture, and sounds terrible in comparison to the alternative!!!
