Iran Tehran, Nov. 25 - New information has come to light over the sudden death of a 14-year-old schoolboy in western Iran, who died after being flogged for “eating in public” during the holy Islamic month of Ramadan.

Kaveh Habibi-Nejad died Nov. 12 and was buried in the cemetery of the Kurdish city of Sanadaj on Nov. 13, according to his death certificate.

The new information is the official report by the coroner’s office in Sanandaj. The report states that the boy died “as a result of brain hemorrhage, after the back of his skull was fractured by a blow from a hard object”.

Eye-witnesses had previously reported that Kaveh lost consciousness while being flogged by agents of Law Enforcement Forces, Iran’s paramilitary police force. They said they believed he died because “the metal cable being used to flog him hit his head”.

Flogging young men and teenagers in public for a range of offenses such as drinking alcohol or eating in public during the fasting season is common in Iranian cities.

Eye-witnesses said that before Kaveh was flogged, his punishment was read out by the Chief of Police who announced that Kaveh was to receive “85 blows on the back”.

The family is now being pressured to perform the burial in private under the supervision of regime personnel (they are referring to their thugs and attack-dogs).

While the U.N. has been so quick to condemn the abuse by ONE U.S. soldier against a wounded terrorist in Fallujah and asked for an investigation , it still did not say a word of condemnation nor asked an investigation on the crime-number-1-million carried out by the Mullahs' regime against a young Iranian boy.

Iranian boy,16, sentenced to death for "murder"

http://www.iranfocus.com/modules/news/article.php?storyid=754

TEHRAN - Iran's hardline judiciary has sentenced a 16-year-old boy to death for murder, the reformist Shargh daily reported Tuesday.

According to the report, the boy -- only identified as Vahid from near Tehran -- confessed to stabbing his friend Mehdi to death but insisted he did it in self-defence, saying the victim wanted to sexually abuse him.

No further details were given, but verdicts can be appealed and death sentences are subject to supreme court approval.

Under Iranian, any person who has reached the age of maturity -- considered nine-years-old for girls and 15 years for boys -- can be executed for capital offences.

But executions for those who committed their crimes while under the age of 18 are rare.

Last month the judiciary said it has drawn up a bill that would scrap the death penalty and lashings for under-18s -- meaning the sentencing of the 16-year-old could be annulled.

Several Iranian human rights organisations and Nobel Peace Prize winner Shirin Ebadi have been lobbying Ayatollah Mahmoud Hashemi Shahrudi, the head of the judiciary, not to sentence minors to death.

Murder, armed robbery, rape, apostasy and serious drug trafficking are all punishable by death in Iran.

A 14 year-old boy from Sanandaj (most probably a Kurdish boy, my guess) was arrested for breaking his fast during Ramadan. Convicted and sentenced to 85 lashes, the boy died while the punishment was being carried out (Islamic Justice hard at work, my own comments). The identity of the boy is not being released, and the body was held at the coroner's office for 3 days due for burial at Behesteh Mohammadi cemetery, however the regime canceled the ceremony for fear of backlash. The family is now being pressured to perform the burial in private under the supervision of regime personnel (they are referring to their thugs and attack-dogs).

A 14 year old boy is sentenced to 85 lashes for breaking his Ramadan fast !

http://www.iranpressnews.com/english/source/001327.html

A 14 year old boy died on Thursday, November 11th, after having received 85 lashes; according to the ruling of the Mullah judge of the public circuit court in the town of Sanandadj he was guilty of breaking his fast during the month of Ramadan.

The Kurdish site Rojeh´heh Lât reports that the young man´s identity has not been disclosed. He was scheduled for burial on Saturday, November 13th (after 3 days at the local morgue), in the cemetery of Beheshteh Mohammadi in Sanandadj. However due to the public´s realization of the events surrounding the boy´s circumstances the cemetery was stormed [in protest] and his burial did not take place.

According to informed sources, supervisors have instructed that the burial take place in the presence of his closest relatives, surveyed by security forces.

UN Secretary General

Dear Mr. Annan

For the past 25 years, the Islamic Republic of Iran (IRI) has committed the worst crimes against humanity in Iran. The UN's commission on human rights only response has been to issue several statements which have been ridiculed by the IRI.

Tens of thousands of men, women and Iranian children have been executed, hundreds of limbs amputated, thousands of people have been tortured and raped in mullahs prisons. Eyes have been gouged out, many people have been stoned, and tens of tens of thousands have been disabled due to physical and mental torture.

Despite all these crimes against humanity and tyranny, the international community only suffices to issuing statements.

On November 11,2004, The Islamic Republic of Iran committed a murder in public. One that didn't make the headlines and was not shown on TV screens, and the public were not given the chance to sigh in horror at the brutality of this murder. The case I want to highlight is that of a 14 year old boy in Iran, who died after receiving 85 lashes. The mullah in Sanandaj had sentenced the boy because he had broken the fast in public view during the month of Ramadan. Imagine how the poor boy suffered the excruciating pain of each lash and how he collapsed to his death in front of the tearful eyes of his parents. The murder could have easily been stopped, had the executioners had an ounce of humanity in them and recognised the obvious signs of the impending death in the boy. But in the dark minds of the executioners, the 14 year old boy, had violated "God's law" by biting into a sandwich. In their warped minds, he deserved the slow, painful death, and they were happy to carry out "God's law".

It seems that in his case the world doesn't care about him, it is more fashionable to think about the throat cutting insurgents of Fallujah!

I am appalled at the silence of the UN and the European union.

Sincerely yours,
Ramin Etebar, MD
