International Solidarity for Iranian Struggle

May 26, 2005
Iran va Jahan
Shaheen Fatemi

Coupling of shared values creates community of interests. In electronics the term coupling means transfer of energy from one circuit to another. In the realm of human affairs it is also possible to transfer constructive energy from one circuit or network to another. With the increasing contact between the Iranian democrats and their international counterparts, a new and welcome page seems to have been opened in the continued struggle of the Iranian people against the oppressive regime in Tehran.

While in the past there has been a disconnect between the Iranian democrats struggling against the regime and their foreign counterparts, there are increasing signs of better international linkages with individuals and organization interested in advancing the cause of liberty and human rights. The recent meeting in Amman Jordan and the forthcoming conference sponsored by the Liberal Party of Sweden are examples of this new and welcome trend.

Traditionally, the international community has listed its grievances against the Islamic regime in the following order:

The nuclear issue: The world is worried about Iran’s possible WMD program. In spite of EU-3 illusions and delusions, efforts in appeasing the current Iranian regime will not bear any fruit. These efforts are doomed to failure because they are based on short-term, opportunistic economic goals pursued by the Europeans and not genuine search for a lasting solution to a serious problem. The EU-3 are experienced enough to know that those who have lied and cheated in the past are not about to change their spots. The free world can not and should not take a chance by letting the Islamic regime get its hands on weapons of mass destruction.

Support for Terrorism in the Region and World-Wide: This year’s State Department list of State Sponsors of Terrorism refers to Iran as “the most active state sponsor of terrorism in 2004.” In addition to material and moral support that the Iranian regime has been providing for the Hezbollah and other terrorist groups in Lebanon, Syria and Palestine, there is ample evidence pointing to their interference in Iraq, Egypt, Yemen and Afghanistan. The global war against terrorism can hardly ignore one of the major contributors to this dreadful enterprise.

Interference with the Peace Process: Opposition to a peaceful settlement of the Arab-Israeli conflict has been a major foreign policy objective of the current regime in Iran. It will spare no effort in trying to interfere with this process and contribute to its defeat. As long as this regime is in power, and it continues supporting terrorist groups such as Hezbollah, Hammas, Jihad and others, prospects for successful negotiations and a peaceful outcome are not being helped

Violation of Human Rights: The record of the current regime regarding continued violations of human rights in Iran has been condemned by every international and human rights organization in the world. Women, ethnic and religious minorities have been the primary victims of this brutal regime. This element in the list of grievances by the West against the IRI is often mentioned last.

While in the order of importance for non-Iranians violation of human rights may not rank on the top, for the Iranian people, there is no doubt that full compliance and observance of basic rights of Iranian citizens should top the list. One can effectively argue that if this principle was not violated by the present regime, the other issues would not arise. Putting it differently, in democratic societies governments can not become ‘outlaws’ and survive for long. The best and the most effective guarantee that the west can ask for you is only possible when Iran becomes an open democracy with checks and balances over the executive power which is only possible when people become masters of their own destiny. And that happens only when sovereignty is restored to the people.

The Iran Freedom Foundation Announces Solidarity Event in DC

The Iran Freedom Foundation (IFF) has announced a gathering for solidarity on Saturday, May 28 at 12 p.m. in Lafayette Park across from the White House. The event is a chance for freedom advocates and intellectuals to converge on the nation’s capital and call attention to the need for peaceful change in Iran. Former Assistant Secretary of Defense Richard Perle and former Ambassador Mark Palmer will be among the day's distinguished speakers.

Before and during the gathering, IFF spokespeople and Iranian-American walkers will be available for media interviews.

The gathering is the culmination of the Iran Freedom Walk, a 200-mile journey on foot aimed at promoting awareness between Iranians and Americans. Led by Dr. Jerome Corsi, IFF Founder and author of the recent book Atomic Iran, the walk kicked off from Independence Mall in Philadelphia, PA on May 16th. Over the course of nine days, Dr. Corsi and a group of Iranian-Americans have walked over 100 miles, sharing their message of freedom along the way.

Now, they are bringing their message of support for reform-minded Iranians to the nation's capital for a day-long gathering aimed at increasing awareness about the plight of Iranians under their repressive government. The event will also be broadcast in real time to millions of Iranians via satellite, just a few weeks before their presidential election. It is crucial that the IFF’s message for peaceful, non-violent change reach Iranians before they go to the polls.

The Iran Freedom Foundation (IFF) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit educational and charitable organization established to educate the public about the Islamic Republic of Iran and to promote freedom in the region.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Thursday, April 7, 2005

AUTHOR AND IRAN FREEDOM FOUNDATION FOUNDER TO WALK FROM PHILADELPHIA TO DC

NASHVILLE, TENNESSEE — April 7, 2005 — Jerome Corsi, author of the new book Atomic Iran (atomiciran.com) and founder of the Iran Freedom Foundation (iranfree.org), has announced that on May 16, 2005, he will begin a freedom walk in Philadelphia, ending in Washington, DC.

Designed to help bring peaceful change in Iran, "The Iran Liberty Walk" will begin at the Liberty Bell in Philadelphia. The walk will be broadcast into Iran via radio, television, and the Internet, featuring live coverage and interviews with those participating in the event. It is estimated that some 40 million Iranians will follow the coverage of "The Iran Liberty Walk."

Corsi, age 58, says the route from Philadelphia to DC is approximately 128 miles and will take two weeks to complete. "I am 58 years old and yet determined to walk the distance. I invite all who share our purpose to join me for as much of the walk as you can."

Not only is the Iran Freedom Foundation sending a signal for peaceful change in Iran with the walk, but it is also calling for civil disobedience from Iranian citizens. On June 17, the date of the Iranian presidential election, Corsi and the IFF urge Iranians to "flood the streets" and vote 'no' in the "sham elections the mullahs are planning."

"The Iran Liberty Walk" will be filmed by Timothy Watkins, producer of the documentary film, In the Face of Evil, which documents the courage of Ronald Reagan and Pope John Paul II and their resolve to stand up to communism.

Corsi says that the Iran Freedom Foundation is resolved to do the same with the mullahs in Iran. "Please visit our website, www.iranfree.org, and plan to follow us in our march for freedom in Iran, a destiny we know will soon come to the Iranian people. The tide of freedom sweeping across the Middle East will not be stopped, even if the mullahs spend billions in public relations to fool the world about their evil intentions."

I believe it is an excellent idea. The walk will be broadcasted to the world, including Iran. An opportunity like this does not appear often. With enough participants, but more importantly given proper coverage, this event may very well succeed in informing a greater number of people of conscience of our cause. That cause, it needs to be stressed, is the toppling of the Shiite Taliban. It is neither “reform” nor a referendum.

If the Carter administration could recruit and finance Islamist terrorists and anti-Iranian opportunists to raze our country and butcher our countrymen, then it is not too much to ask the present powers that be to, if not help us topple the Islamist regime, then at least not to frustrate our efforts.

Now, for the past two years Iranians and Iranian-Americans living in the northeast have been participating, in large numbers, in the Persian Parade. If they did so out of what they thought were patriotic motives, then they must prove it by participating in this walk. We would of course be very pleased to see some of the thousands of Americans who lived in Iran prior to Mohsen Sazegara and Shirin Ebadi’s “glorious revolution”

The distance between Philadelphia and DC will be covered in 19 days and in four stages, each stage consisting of a number of routes. Those interested can join the walk at any stage or join other supporters awaiting the arrival of the participants in front of the Capitol.

On May 16, Jerry Corsi, founder and primary spokesman for the Iran Freedom Foundation, will set off on a 207-mile journey aimed at strengthening ties between Americans and Iranians, and calling attention to the need for peaceful change in Iran.
Between May 16 and June 3, Mr. Corsi will walk from the Liberty Bell in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to a replica placed in the heart of Washington, DC. Along the way, he will visit major cities and historical towns, speaking with Americans at churches, town halls, schools and other civic centers about the harsh realities of life in Iran. He will also provide information about the real America to Iranians, to counter the anti-American fiction trumped up by the Islamic Republic's propaganda machine.

Mr. Corsi will be interviewed by local and national broadcasting networks, such as Sinclair TV, and his journey will also be tracked and chronicled online. As he engages with the American media, Mr. Corsi will discuss the current social, political and economic situation in Iran and will urge Americans to reach out to this oppressed community. **UPDATE** The Iran Freedom Walk will be carried live by the Voice of America and Radio Free Europe, giving millions of Iranians the opportunity to follow the event.

At the same time, Mr. Corsi and the Iran Freedom Foundation will work to show the Iranian people that Americans support their struggle to bring about non-violent, democratic change. Mr. Corsi will be accompanied for the duration of the walk by a satellite truck. Each day, a two-hour radio program will be recorded and broadcast throughout Iran.

The Iran Freedom Foundation has already received letters from a number of individuals who are concerned with the plight of Iranians and want to join Mr. Corsi. We welcome all supporters of freedom to join in as much of the walk as they are able.

Mr. Corsi will arrive in Philadelphia a few days before the start of the Iran Freedom Walk to provide information about the event to local news organizations, and to meet with supporters and fellow walkers. The event will be covered live by local and national talk radio shows, including those of G. Gordon Liddy, Joseph Farah, and Craig R. Smith.

Several members of Congress have expressed interest in joining Mr. Corsi on the final leg of the Iran Freedom Walk as he comes into Washington, where they will be met by supporters at a rally in front of the Capitol.

After the event, Mr. Corsi will continue working with members of Congress, national security experts, public policy makers and political organizations to advance the cause of Iranian freedom.

The Iran Freedom Foundation is working to provide logistical support for the Iran Freedom Walk and to broadcast it into Iran.

Today, we begin the Iran Freedom Walk at the Liberty Bell in Philadelphia, Pa. Over the course of the next three weeks, we will walk the 200 miles from Philadelphia to Washington, D.C. We are marching to demonstrate our solidarity for peaceful change in Iran.

The clerics currently ruling Iran are a criminal mafia that has been exporting terrorism for 26 years. The mullahs have brutally repressed all forms of political and religious freedom within Iran. Their human-rights crimes against the Persian people are extensive, well-documented and brutal. The mullahs continue to preach hate, refusing to drop their chants of "Death to America" and "Death to Israel." We have documented the abuses of the Islamic Republic of Iran – the mullahs of Iran have hijacked Islam as they have hijacked Iran.

The time is getting short. Even while the world presses the mullahs to drop their ambitions to develop nuclear weapons, the regime continues to insist upon the right to enrich uranium. Years of lies and deception about their secret nuclear weapons ambitions leave little hope that negotiations will resolve the problem.

The mullahs are headed down the path of confrontation with the United States and Israel. President Bush has sworn that the mullahs will never be allowed to possess nuclear weapons and he has insisted that the military option has not been taken off the table. Still, with the Iran Freedom Walk, we continue to believe we can support the forces of peaceful change within Iran.

We hope that our three-weeks march will fan the winds of freedom that are sweeping across the Middle East. We endorse non-violent activism and we plan to support whatever means of protest the Iranian people themselves choose to resist the fraudulent presidential election planned by the mullahs for one month from now, on June 17.

We pray that the Liberty Bell, which rang out across America in the first expressions of our freedom, will also ring across the world to Iran for the coming freedom of the Persian people.

Our walk will be broadcast day-by-day for three weeks by the Voice of America. We will also be followed by Radio Free Europe's Radio Farda broadcasting into Iran. The extensive network of Iranian opposition radio and television has been organized by Mr. Morovati of Radio Sedaye Iran to march along with us and broadcast into Iran by the "illegal" satellite channels bravely received in Iran by those willing to risk their personal safety to hear the message of freedom. A estimated 40 million of Iran's 70 million people are expected to hear and see the Iran Freedom March as it progresses.

This is a historic opportunity for the people of Iran to see that the people of America love the Persian people Over 1 million Persians today live in the United States, fully integrated into our society, living happy and productive lives, raising families and pursuing successful careers.

As we walk through the towns along the routes, we will stop to pray in churches, synagogues and mosques. We will interview town officials and local residents as we move along. This message of love and support for the Persian people will be an outpouring from America of our desire for freedom in Iran, a freedom we believe can be realized without a war.

We are asking for your support. Please contribute to our efforts. All donations – large and small – are appreciated. We ask for your prayers, as the time here is getting short. Iranians from the United States and around the world are coming to Philadelphia to walk with us. If you want to join us, please walk along. The daily schedule will be posted and updated on or website.

We make this march in the resolute determination that evil cannot long withstand the moral determination to call out abuses and stand resolute for freedom. The mullahs are unfit to rule and now it is time to show them the door.

Not being able to read Persian I'm not sure which box to click on to vote.. I also see where you can credit a friend with referring you, and that Dr. Iman Foroutan of IOTM has 1100 referrals so far. Perhaps put his name in that blank during registration?

The Iran Freedom Walk: Day 1 -- Monday, May 16, 2005

Day 1: Philadelphia PA to Devon PA (click for details)

Participants on the first leg of the Iran Freedom Walk will meet at the Liberty Bell in Philadelphia, PA on Monday, May 16th, at 10:30 am. The Walk itself will begin at 11:00, following remarks to the press by Dr. Jerry Corsi. The walkers will cover about 14 miles on the first day, from the heart of Philadelphia to Newtown Square. Early risers are welcome to join Dr. Corsi for breakfast at 7:30 am at the SoleFood restaurant in the Loews Philadelphia Hotel at 1200 Market Street.

The complete 200+ mile event started Monday, May 16 in Philadelphia and will end Thursday, June 2 at Freedom Square in downtown Washington DC. Along the way, Dr. Corsi and his supporters will work to raise public awareness of the current social, political and economic situation in Iran and urge Americans to support the cause of freedom there. More details and the complete route listing can be found on the main Iran Freedom Walk page.

The Iran Freedom Walk will be covered by a variety of local and national broadcasts, including Sinclair TV and the G. Gordon Liddy Show, and will be carried live internationally by the Voice of America, Radio Free Europe, and Radio Farda, providing millions of Iranians with the opportunity to follow the event. We will also track and chronicle the Walk online here at IranFree.org.

The Iran Freedom Walk started on a clear spring day across the street from the site of the Liberty Bell in Philadelphia. Dr. Jerry Corsi answered questions from members of the media before starting on his planned 18-day walk to Washington DC.

Mr. Assadolah Morovati, who founded KRSI radio in Los Angeles and pioneered Iranian broadcasting in the U.S., spoke directly to the Iranian people in Farsi. He recalled the 26 years of brutal rule in Iran by the mullahs, and said that today we are at a crossroads, with an unprecedented opportunity to act together to remove them. He said that the people of Iran are ready, and we in America are obligated to provide what support we can. Mr. Morovati expressed his hope that by June 17, the date of the presidential election in Iran, the rule of the mullahs would be at an end.

Dr. Kamal Azari, chairman of the Iran Freedom Foundation, spoke next, emphasizing the need for a peaceful transition in Iran. He said that Iranians must unite to show the world they are ready for freedom and democracy.

Dr. Corsi then addressed supporters, describing the mullahs as a "criminal Mafia" who have hijacked Iran and the religion of Islam. He noted that they have exported terror around the world for 26 years, and said that they certainly cannot be trusted with nuclear weapons. Dr. Corsi described the upcoming June 17 elections as "a fraud" and said that he and the Iran Freedom Foundation will support whatever form of peaceful protest against the regime the Iranian people choose.

At the conclusion of his speech, Dr. Corsi dipped his finger into red paint, as a symbol of the suffering of the Iranian people under the mullahs. He said he looks forward to the day when he can replace the red with purple, the color marking the fingers of those who voted in the first free elections in Iraq, and now an international symbol of freedom in the Middle East.

Dr. Corsi takes the first steps of the 200 mile, 18-day journey that will lead to Freedom Plaza in Washington DC.

The end of Day 1 finds Dr. Corsi in Devon, PA, midway between Malvern and Radnor, about 4 miles north of the original target of Newtown Square on a slightly revised route, having covered a solid 16 miles.

The Iran Freedom Walk: Day 2 -- Tuesday, May 17, 2005

Day 2: Devon PA to Exton PA (click for details)

Flanked by about a dozen dedicated Iranian-Americans, Jerry Corsi covered about 13 miles on the second leg of the Iran Freedom Walk. This is the core group that plans to participate for the duration.

Dr. Corsi reports that the group has settled into a comfortable walking pace, and that they have met with a cordial reception in these small Pennsylvania towns. He says that the local police have been very helpful and encouraging, particularly in Devon and Paoli.

Over the next few days we will begin to profile some of the walkers who are accompanying Dr. Corsi. One is a medical doctor who was imprisoned and tortured in Iran. Another is an 86 year old man whose three sons were all killed by the mullahs' regime.

Dr. Corsi was interviewed on several radios yesterday, and international coverage of the Walk on the Voice of America, Radio Free Europe and Radio Farda continues.

We should have some photographs of the second day available shortly.
