Bush saddened by massive Iran earthquake

CRAWFORD - President George W. Bush said Friday he was "greatly saddened" by a massive earthquake in Iran which killed at least 20,000 people.
"Laura and I heard this morning of the earthquake centered in the city of Bam, Iran," Bush said in a statement.
"We are greatly saddened by the loss of life, injuries, and widespread damage to this ancient city.
"I extend my condolences to all those touched by this tragedy. The thoughts of all Americans are with the victims and their families at this time, and we stand ready to help the people of Iran."
The statement, issued from Bush's texas ranch, made no mention of the government of Iran, a nation he has said is part of an "axis of evil."
His spokesman Scott McClellan said earlier that the United States would provide humanitarian aid to Iran, but gave no further details _________________ Referendum AFTER Regime Change
