Well, they have published an appeal to partecipate to a demonstration, which will be held on November 3 in front of IRI's embassy.

below you can read the english translation of the appeal and you let me know what you think.

If you will endorse the appeal, your name ill appear in the list of the people who endorsed it.

Israel is a rock

The Islamic Republic in Iran wants to wipe it off the map. We say NO

We love Iran, its history, culture, traditions, religions, heritage; its people and youth, their democratic ferment and aspirations, which are part of what the absolute majority of its population wants.

We don't like the theocratic regime that rules it since 1979. We don't like its support for international terrorism, its anti-american and anti-western violence. Its nuclear program scares us all. Profetic fanatism makes things worse.

We have heard Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, the leader of a theocratic absolute dictatorship, stating that he and its mullahs and ayatollahs regime doesn't want to change the policies of Ariel Sharon, nor it wants to negotiate. All it (the regime) wants to do is to wipe Israel off the map - that is , off the earth. We must say clearly and strongly NO.

In a big European capital like Rome, in a country that had signed into law the infamous anti-jewish racial laws; in a city where many don't take the anti-semitic threat seriously; a city that has started an inter-religious dialogue based on secularism and respect of Israel and its people,we must make our NO heard.

And it'll be heard in Rome, on November 3, in front of the Islamic Republic's embassy. We'll express our solidarity to the Iranian people, condemn the regime's violence and defend Israel's right to exist and live in peace with all the Middle Eastern countries.

ROME -- Politicians from Italy's left and right have said they will attend a rally in front of the Iranian embassy on Thursday to protest remarks by the Iranian president that Israel should be "wiped off the map."

Il Foglio, a niche conservative newspaper close to Premier Silvio Berlusconi, called for the protest over the weekend, saying Italians should demonstrate "to defend the right of Israel to exist."

But in a sign that the protest had sparked divisions in the left, the Greens party said Monday that it was organizing its own sit-in in front of the embassy a day earlier, on Wednesday.

The protest wouldn't only affirm the right of Israel to exist but will also "affirm the need for a full application of U.N. resolutions recognizing a Palestinian state and the rights of the Palestinian people," said a statement from Greens lawmakers carried by the ANSA and Apcom news agencies.

In a front-page article Saturday, Il Foglio said 125 prominent Italians, including Foreign Minister Gianfranco Fini, the European Union Justice and Home Affairs Commissioner Franco Frattini - both allies of the center-right Berlusconi - as well as center-left opposition politician Francesco Rutelli and Radical leader Marco Pannella, had backed the Thursday protest.

Another opposition lawmaker, Piero Fassino, also said he would attend. The center-left's main leader, Romano Prodi, hasn't decided whether to attend because of prior engagements, spokesman Rodolfo Brancoli said Monday.

But a veteran Italian communist leader, Fausto Bertinotti, had indicated he would only participate in Thursday's demonstration if a separate demonstration guaranteeing a Palestinian state were also organized.

"I believe that defending the Israeli state is right, but at the same time, one cannot ever forget the need, also just, for the establishment of a Palestinian state," Bertinotti said.

Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said last week that Israel should be "wiped off the map." He has since defended his remarks following widespread international condemnation.

Il Foglio's editor, Giuliano Ferrara, organized a pro-Israel rally in 2002 and Il Foglio co-sponsored a 2004 Rome conference on anti-Semitism with the Anti-Defamation League.

Of course I endorse it.

Italian Foriegn policy regarding the Middle East from 1948- has always been by far the best, since that policy is reward democracies and punish thugs like the Theocracy Gangsters, and baathists, and it is very nice to see that Italians are sticking by that policy.

Iran an issue for U.N., Italian Foreign Minister says Tue. 1 Nov 2005

ANSA

Foreign minister says anti-Israeli remarks 'terrifying'

Jerusalem/Rome, November 1 - Italian Foreign Minister Gianfranco Fini said on Tuesday the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) should refer Iran to the UN Security Council over its controversial nuclear programme .

Speaking in Jerusalem after talks with his Israeli counterpart Silvan Shalom, Fini said the issue was extremely pressing following Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad's call for the destruction of Israel .

Ahmadinejad's remark last Wednesday that Israel "should be wiped off the map" was a "terrifying threat", said Fini .

"I think the entire international community must keep its guard up to ensure that Iran does not produce nuclear warheads as this would be a high-risk scenario for humanity," he added .

"We hope that in view of the Iranian president's remarks against Israel that when the (board of governors of the) IAEA meets in November it will decide to refer Iran to the Security Council," said Fini .

Shalom stressed that "Ahmadinejad's remarks were threatening but came as no suprise. We know what Iran would like to do: destroy Israel." Iran was "no longer just a problem for Israel: we hope the case will be brought to the Security Council as soon as possible. Iran is simply trying to buy time to produce nuclear weapons," said Shalom .

Italian politicians of all stripes are planning to take part in protest sit-ins outside the Iranian embassy in Rome later this week .

A number of MPs and party leaders have agreed to take part in a candle-lit protest being organised by the conservative daily Il Foglio on Thursday evening .

Another sit-in is planned for Wednesday afternoon by the Green party and is expected to draw younger protesters and pro-Palestinian left-wingers .

Democratic Left leader Piero Fassino said he planned to attend Thursday's sit-in, saying that Iran was waging "an ideological war against Israel which is politically and morally unacceptable." Ahmadinejad's remarks are an "intolerable insult not only to the Jewish state but to all the international community," said Rome Mayor Walter Veltroni .

Deputy Production Activities Minister Adolfo D'Urso, of the governing right-wing National Alliance party, urged parties to make Thursday's protest a "bipartisan event." Foreign Ministry Undersecretary Margherita Boniver said it was "disgusting" that Iran was attempting to whip up discord while the international community is working to relaunch the Road Map for Middle East peace."

A Rich Italian Dinner Feast
Demonstrating against the anti-Semitism.

In response to Iran's call for the elimination of Israel, Wednesdayevening in Rome, thousands, probably tens of thousands, will demonstrate in support of the Jewish state. The demonstration has been organized by Giuliano Ferrara, the larger-than-life editor of the feisty daily newspaper il Foglio, and the demonstrators will range from members of some Italian Islamic organizations to foreign minister Giancarlo Fini (long a bete noire of America's "leading" newspapers and networks), just back from a trip to the Middle East.

It takes courage to stand up publicly for Israel against the world's leading sponsor of terrorism, especially in contemporary Europe, where anti-Semitism is on the rise, where the Jewish population is minuscule (there are slightly more than 40,000 in all of Italy, less than one percent of Italians), and where the Islamic population is expanding rapidly. I have not noticed any such demonstrations here, for example. But the Italians, as is their wont, have once again broken the stereotype most foreigners hold of them, and have directly challenged the mullahs.

That would be extraordinary enough, but they have done far more than that. They have lifted the taboo on the discussion of Islam itself, and of the way the Islamic world has dealt with Israel since it creation. You know the taboo has been shattered when Magdi Allam, the (Muslim) deputy editor of the Corriere della Sera, Italy's leading newspaper, writes a front-page editorial of the sort that was published earlier this week. Many Muslims, he began, are against the existence of Israel, and many others are afraid they will be called traitors if they approve of it. Allam asks, What will they have betrayed?

The Palestinian cause? But the Palestinians themselves recognized Israel's right to exist in Oslo in 1993. Islam? Which Islam? Bin Laden's, that mainly kills Muslims in addition to non-Muslims all over the world? That of the Muslim Brotherhood which has laid its hands on most Italian mosques, exploiting our democracy to propagate a fundamentalist and criminal ideology?

Allam, who has written an important book about the Muslims in Europe, knows that only a minority of them have "the intellectual lucidity and the human courage" to recognize Israel's right to exist. But he insists that they should, and that if they had done so at the beginning, the Palestinians would have had their state. He explodes the most cherished myth of the anti-Semites, the myth that Israel alone is guilty of the miserable state of the Palestinian people. Allam rightly holds the anti-Semites primarily responsible:

Precisely those who do not recognize Israel's right to exist have been opposed to the birth of an independent Palestinian state. Such as happened in 1948 when, in order to prevent the Jewish state from seeing the light of day, they only prevented the creation of the Palestinian state foreseen in 1947 by UN Resolution 181. And why did Jordan, instead of annexing Cisjordan in 1949 and Egypt, instead of governing the Gaza Strip in 1967, never agree to have a Palestinian state in those territories?

Once the taboo is broken, you can see the world plain, and recognize something that President Bush, to his historic credit, intuited several years ago when he was being stampeded toward a premature embrace of Arafat: If you don't embrace freedom whole, for everyone, you end up oppressing the very people you claim to be defending. Palestinian freedom depends on Israeli freedom, as Natan Sharansky has so eloquently reminded us. If there is no Palestinian state today, it is primarily the fault of groups like Fatah, Hamas, and Islamic Jihad, and their Iranian terror masters, who delight in sacrificing the Palestinians in order to destroy Israel, just as the mullahs take great pleasure in sending Arabs to die in jihad against us. Allam lays it out with brutal precision: "There is a manifest connection between the recognition of Israel's right to exist and the acceptance of the value of one's own life and that of others. . . . today the true divide between civilization and barbarism is the recognition of Israel's right to exist."

The West, especially the cynical West European politicians, will deny this moral algorithm, but the terror masters know it is true. They know that the real menace of Israel is the threat of the spread of freedom — and thus their own doom. That is why they react with predictable venom to events like the Rome demonstration. The Iranian regime has targeted the demonstrators for the same obliteration it has so loudly proclaimed for Israel. The Fars Agency in Tehran, notoriously linked to President Ahmadi Nezhad, declared that "the Italians who participate in the demonstration against the Islamic republic are all Zionists," and called for a counterdemonstration in front of the Italian Embassy on the same day.

In case anyone missed the point, the regime intoned that "all those countries and organizations that speak of human rights, are part of the same colonialist design to dominate Islamic countries and Muslims." And Ali Larijani, the new head of the Supreme National Security Council, warned that if the International Atomic Energy Agency decides to pass along Iran's violations to the U.N. Security Council, "oil prices will reach 150 dollars a barrel." And of course the Revolutionary Guards spokesman chanted the ritual hymn: "The intifada will continue until Israel is cancelled forever."

Faster, please.

Mmmm, since we here openly call for the IRI to "cease to exist" as a political "blot on the map"....does this make us barbarians?.....(chuckle).

Or simply civil minded?

Iran summons Italian envoy over planned Rome rally

02 Nov 2005 18:26:12 GMT

Source: Reuters
http://www.alertnet.org/thenews/newsdesk/HUG261456.htm

TEHRAN, Nov 2 (Reuters) - Iran's Foreign Ministry on Wednesday summoned Italy's ambassador to protest about plans to hold a rally outside the Iranian embassy in Rome on Thursday.

Italian politicians from both government and opposition ranks are due to attend the rally on Thursday evening to protest against comments by Iran's President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad last week in which he said Israel should be "wiped off the map."

An Italian embassy spokesman said Ambassador Roberto Toscano had reiterated Rome's condemnation of Ahmadinejad's remarks during the meeting.

Italy "wants good relations with Iran and for Israel to exist in a safe environment," the spokesman said.

Italian Reforms Minister Roberto Calderoli, a member of the far-right Northern League party, said Rome should react to the summons by recalling its ambassador from Tehran.

"I believe one cannot have a civilised relationship with people who have shown themselves to be uncivilised," he said, upping the war of words between two countries which have traditionally enjoyed good relations.

Iran's Foreign Ministry also took issue with comments by Italian Foreign Minister Gianfranco Fini, who told reporters during a visit to Israel on Tuesday he hoped the next meeting of the U.N.'s nuclear watchdog would refer Iran's nuclear case to the U.N. Security Council, where Tehran could face sanctions.

"Such a statement being made by an Italian foreign minister in occupied Palestinian territory is an example of the indifference to the massacre of defenceless Palestinians by Israel and its state terrorism," the official IRNA news agency quoted Foreign Ministry spokesman Hamid Reza Asefi as saying.

Tehran says Ahmadinejad's comments were a re-statement of its pro-Palestinian policy and did not represent an actual threat of violence against Israel.

Iranian officials have reacted angrily to the international criticism of the president's remarks, arguing that it was motivated by a desire to put pressure on Iran over its nuclear programme.

Iran says its nuclear facilities will only be used to generate electricity, not make bombs as Washington suspects.

Thursday's demonstration in Rome has been organised by conservative Italian broadsheet, Il Foglio, which is partly owned by Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi's wife.

Among those expected to attend the candle-lit rally are Foreign Minister Fini, EU Justice and Home Affairs Commissioner Franco Frattini and Piero Fassino -- head of Italy's largest opposition party

Pro-Israel rallies held in front of Iran embassies across Europe

By The Associated Press
http://www.haaretzdaily.com/hasen/spages/640954.html

A wave of demonstrations in support of Israel swept across Europe Wednesday evening as protestors gathered in front of Iranian embassies in a number of capitals.

In France a demonstration organized by the CRIF umbrella group of French Jewish organizations and the Union of Jewish Students of France (UEJF) gathered near the Iranian embassy in Paris.

Protestors chanted out support for Israel and wore stickers reading "Israel est eternel" (Israel is eternal).

Pro-Israel rallies were also held in Vienna, Austria, and Budapest, Hungary, where protestors drew up signs that read "Israel today, Europe tomorrow?".

Meanwhile in Rome, Iran summoned Italy's ambassador to Tehran to protest a planned pro-Israeli rally on Thursday that was organized to denounce recent anti-Israel comments by the Iranian president, according to news reports.

Italy's foreign ministry confirmed Wednesday that Ambassador Roberto Toscano had been summoned to the Iranian foreign ministry a day earlier, but did not say why. The ANSA news agency reported he had been handed a note of protest because of the rally, planned to be held outside the Iranian Embassy in Rome.

In a separate meeting Tuesday, Toscano also met with Iranian Vice President Parziv Davoudi.

During that meeting, Davoudi called on Toscano "to convey the realities of Iranian society accurately to his government so that Italian officials can adopt stances toward Iran without being influenced by Zionist propaganda," according to Iran's official Islamic Republic News Agency.

Davoudi also called for Italy's "active response to the crimes committed by the Zionist regime against Palestinians," IRNA said on its Web site.

Italian politicians from the left and right have said they will attend the rally, called to protest remarks by Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad in which he called for Israel to be "wiped off the map."

Il Foglio, a small conservative newspaper close to Premier Silvio Berlusconi, called for the protest, saying Italians should demonstrate "to defend the right of Israel to exist."

Foreign Minister Gianfranco Fini said Wednesday the international community had to maintain a "firm line" against Tehran, and said he had instructed Toscano to tell the Iranians why "there has been so much indignation and
concern" about Ahmadinejad's remarks in Italy.

"The problem of security doesn't only concern Israel, because if Tehran equips itself with a nuclear arsenal, the problem would concern the whole international community," he told reporters.

The pro-Israel rally has split the Italian left, and the Green Party organized a separate demonstration Wednesday against Ahmadinejad's remarks in front of the Iranian embassy. Their protest, however, which drew about 20 people, was also called to recognize the rights of Palestinians.

News of the summons came a day after Italian Foreign Minister Gianfranco Fini called for Iran to be referred to the UN Security Council for possible sanctions on the issue of the Islamic Republic's nuclear aspirations.

Italy has traditionally had good relations with Iran and has in the past pledged to bring Tehran closer to the European Union. Iran considers Rome its prime trading partner in Europe and Italy has a strong presence in Iran's gas market through Italian oil and gas giant Eni SpA.

Davoudi stressed the two countries' "increasing and long-term cooperation," during the meeting with the Italian ambassador, IRNA said.

Fini has said he would attend Thursday's pro-Israel rally. He has converted his National Alliance Party from a neo-Fascist to mainstream conservative party, and condemned anti-Semitism during a visit to Israel.

"DOROOD BAR AZADI, ZENDE BAD ISRAEL"

Il Foglio
By Stefania Lepenna

November 2, 2005

'LONG LIVE FREEDOM, LONG LIVE ISRAEL'. SLOGANS IN FARSI FOR
TOMORROW'S DEMONSTRATION. TWO LEADERS OF THE OPPOSITIONS
EXPLAIN US HOW TO ORGANIZE POLITICAL MOVEMENTS AND
CAMPAIGNS ( NOT WITHOUT OBSTACLES ) COORDINATED FROM
OUTSIDE TO INSIDE THE COUNTRY'

Rome - The words of hatred and destruction from Mahmoud
Ahmadinejad still sound furious after a week-long worldwide
protests. On the web, many remind about those words -
'Israel must be wipped off the maps' - and the oppositions
to the mullahcracy react as well. "The islamic regime in
Tehran tried first to induce Iranians and the world in
error of appreciation on existance of possibility of
transformation. This worked for years. Now many start
realizing to have been deceived", Aryo Pirouznia ( one of
the most known dissidents, coordinator of the SMCCDI, and
founder of the newborn Iranian National Secular Party) says
to Il Foglio.
Those who since years fight for the cause are glad of
seeing the world community waking up to the threat coming
from the regime in Tehran.
Activism for the cause goes from "calls for the boycott" of
the elections, founding of movements or parties in exile,
campaigning for the women's rights, giving voice to the
dissidents inside the country and letting everyone know
every kindof detail about what's really going on in Iran.

Aryo Pirouznia has recently founded a party-in-exile
reflecting "what SMCCDI brought on Iran's political debate
along with rich experiences gained by this movement and
implement the well-known aspirations of millions of
Iranians in the years and decades to come", he says.

Roozbeh Farahanipour, chairman of the Marze Por Gohar Party
for a Secular Republic of Iran, is still another member of
this galaxy of dissidents nostalgic of their country. "It
is necessary to see the Islamic republic for what it really
is: - he says to Il Foglio - a threat to peace and
stability in the region and the world at large.
The Iranian people are fighting to oust a regime that
occupies the country since 25 years. It must be helped in
concrete ways, not only by saying to be for Democracy and
human rights and then making economic deals with the
oppressors".

The impossibility of reforming the ideological system

The Iranian activists say the Iranians are not with
Ahmadinejad: "It is a known fact that the Iranian people
sees Israel as a friend and a strategic ally against a
common enemy - Pirouznia explains - Millions have boycotted
last week's anti-semitic demonstrations and turned their
backs to the fanatical regime and its new symbol".
On the TV screen, we all saw thousands of people
demonstrating. "These demos were in reality meaningless and
turned into another fiasco for the islamist regime -
Pirouznia says - which did not gather more than 50-80
thousand people, mainly professional demonstrators and
mercenaries. Several thousands of them were Afghan, Iraqi,
Lebanese and e Palestinian islamists living in Iran since
years".

Many agree with Pirouznia: several opposition websites are
telling about "mercenary demonstrators", which use to
demonstrate every Friday after the prayer, in support of
the regime. A very tiny minority in a capital of 13
millions inhabitants.

According to Pirouznia, "more Iranism is spreading and more
Islamism is backing off", reforms have been just a mere
illusion - "it is literally impossible and nonsense to try
modifying the islamic regime's constitution or reform the
regime itself", Farahanipour states -because Islamism is a
"an ideology similar to fascism, nazism and communism . All
of them have in common the repressive character and the
threat to the mankind nature. The world is just learning
this fact", Pirouznia explains.

As the world faces the threats against Israel 'coming from'
the Islamic regime, some see war as more likely: "Either
the Iranian people organizes a revolution to overthrow the
regime or the world community is going to do what it think
is in its best interest - Farahanipour reiterates - While
we fight to get rid of the mullahcracy, we must do all we
can to avert a military invasion". The role of the
oppositions is vital and they need to be united : "There
have been a lot of division among the oppositions and this
has of course not helped us", Farahanipour recognizes. Yet,
things seem to be changing, thanks to an effort in the
search of the needed unity. More international pressure on
the regime of course would help so much. In order to defeat
terrorism and avert a nuclear nightmare, "the Iranian
people must be helped both morally and economically to oust
a regime whose evil nature many are learning to know better
just in these days", Pirouznia says. The regime's
illeggittimate financial assets needs to be freezed. Many
of these assets are in European,Canadian, UAE and African
banks. Without the flow of money, also the hatred promoted
by a regime that relies on money to stay in power, will
cease to exist.

Italy's premier reaches out to Muslims for cooperation against terrorism
The Associated Press, Nov. 2, 2005

ROME

Italy's premier on Wednesday called for continued dialogue with Muslims and asked for their cooperation in fighting terrorism, saying the world had to prevent a new "Iron Curtain" from dividing the West and the Islamic world.

Silvio Berlusconi, who angered many Muslims in 2001 after saying Western civilization was superior to Islam, invited Muslim ambassadors to dinner Wednesday evening to mark the end of the holy month of Ramadan.

He stressed the "essential" ties between the Muslim and Christian worlds, saying both reject violence, and said Italy was committed to dialogue with the Muslim community here.

"They are a resource," he told the ambassadors. "We hope they will cooperate strongly with us to pull up the roots of violence and live with us in harmony with our values."

He told the ambassadors that terrorists, which he called the new "enemy" of the 21st century, were seeking to create a clash of civilizations. "This danger must be thwarted: We must prevent a new 'Iron Curtain' from falling between the West and the Islamic world," he said.

"We still have time. We must prevent the terrorists' design from being realized," he said. "For this reason, we are insisting on dialogue between our civilizations, which while different are joined by the same values of humanity."

Iranian Ambassador Baharam Ghasemi was in attendance despite Iran's opposition to a planned pro-Israel rally Thursday that many top Italian politicians from the left and right plan to attend, the ANSA news agency reported. The rally in front of the Iranian Embassy in Rome was called to protest anti-Israel comments by Iran's president.

Italy has been trying to balance its stepped up anti-terrorism security measures, including surveillance of mosques and Islamic centers, with outreach to the Muslim community.

Interior Minister Giuseppe Pisano, who is in charge of Italy's police forces, is creating an Islamic council within his ministry to improve communication with the community, which numbers about 1.1. million in a country of 58 million.

Berlusconi's relations with the Muslim world hit a low in 2001, soon after the Sept. 11 attacks, when he said that Western civilization was superior to Islam because it had freedom at its core "which is not the heritage of the Islamic culture." He said he was misquoted, but later apologized.

Also, Berlusconi has been an ally of U.S. President George W. Bush, and sent about 3,000 troops to Iraq after the fall of Saddam Hussein. Italy's military has reported 27 deaths in Iraq.

French and Italian politicians protest against Islamist Regime's anti-Israel stance

http://www.euronews.net/create_html.php?page=detail_info&article=317463&lng=1

Between 2,000 and 5,000 people gathered outside the Iranian Embassy in Paris last night, to protest against comments by Iran's President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad last week in which he said Israel should be "wiped off the map."

The demonstrators included Jewish groups, anti-racism campaigners, and representatives of the Catholic church and the largest political parties.

The Iranian government has summmoned Italy's ambassador to express its displeasure over a similar rally being held today outside the Iranian embassy in Rome. Senior centre-left and centre-right politicians are set to attend.

The demonstration has been organised by the conservative Italian broadsheet "Il Foglio" which is partly owned by the wife of prime minister Silvio Berlusconi.

The paper's director said: "President Ahmadinejad's speech was frightening and full of hatred. It was not only directed against the policies of Sharon and the Israeli government but against the fact that Israel exists. They weren't just words, they were a sign of a theocratic regime that seeks to export this message of hatred across Arab countries and around the world- and we must respond." Yesterday, in Tehran, over 10,000 people marked the anniversary of the takeover of the US embassy in 1979.

Officials here say the president's comments represented no actual threat against Israel, suggesting the subsequent international outcry was meant to pressure Iran over its nuclear programme

Tit-for-tat: Iran organises demo outside Italian embassy Thu. 3 Nov 2005

Iran Focus

Tehran/London, Nov. 03 - Iran hastily organised a demonstration outside the Italian embassy in Tehran on the same day that top Italian lawmakers from both government and opposition parties are lining up outside the Iranian embassy in Rome to condemn “incendiary” remarks by Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, who said last week that “Israel must be wiped off the map”.

On Wednesday, Iran's Foreign Ministry summoned Italy's ambassador Roberto Toscano to protest the Italian initiative against Ahmadinejad’s threats as well as comments by Italian Foreign Minister Gianfranco Fini, who told reporters on Tuesday that the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) should refer Iran's nuclear dossier to the United Nations Security Council.

Italian Reforms Minister Roberto Calderoli said that Rome should counteract by recalling its ambassador from Tehran.

Several hundred hard-liners took part in the demonstration in Tehran, which was organised by the para-military Bassij movement, an off-shoot of the Revolutionary Guards.

They chanted slogans and lifted banners condemning the state of Israel and Italy’s support for the Jewish state.

The demonstration in Rome, organised by the conservative Italian broadsheet, Il Foglio, is scheduled for later this evening, when there will also be a candle-lit vigil. Among the powerful lawmakers who have announced their participation at the Rome rally are Foreign Minister Fini; European Union Justice and Home Affairs Commissioner, Franco Frattini; and Piero Fassino, who heads Italy's largest opposition party.

On Wednesday, several thousand people gathered outside the Iranian embassy in Paris to condemn the Iranian president’s threats. Several dozen Iranian opposition activists joined in the protest, saying that Ahmadinejad was speaking for the minority ruling clique in Iran and not the Iranian people.
