Iran faces `destruction` - Israel warns

HERZLIYA, Israel (UPI) -- Israeli Defense Minister Shaul Mofaz warned the Iranian people Saturday that they faced 'destruction' unless they managed to restrain their new President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad.

'Look at the fate of others who sought the destruction of the Jewish people. They only brought havoc and destruction to the own people,' Mofaz said.

'I know that a large part of the people of Iran do not support his policies but his despicable acts could bring destruction to all of you. You understand what must be done to prevent this,' Mofaz added, directly addressing the Iranian people.

It was the toughest statement of Israel`s determination to block Iran`s nuclear ambitions since the stroke that felled Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon two weeks ago, and it came just two days before the next scheduled international inspection of Iran`s nuclear research facilities.

Mofaz`s speech to an international conference of security experts in Herzliya, an exclusive resort just north of Tel Aviv, contained a clear warning that Israel if the United Nations and the international community failed to act, Israel would do so.

'Israel has to be able to defend itself,' Mofaz said. 'This we can do, and we are working on it now.'

The Mofaz speech was intended not only for Iran and an international audience but also for Israeli voters, who go to the polls in March in a general election that seems likely to elect a new government led by the new Kadima party, founded by Sharon, to which Mofaz has rallied along with the acting Prime Minister Ehud Olmert. With the prospect of a nuclear-armed Iran looming heavily over the Israeli elections, Mofaz`s speech was aimed to reassure the voters that Israel`s security would be safe in Kadima`s hands.

Iran`s nuclear development program is 'an existential risk to the entire world, not just Israel,' Mofaz went on, and said that Ahmadinejad led 'an extremist regime that denies the existence of Israel and calls for its obliteration.'

'I believe everyone present here understands the extent to which the combination of an extremist regime with long-range ballistic capability, ongoing effort to obtain nuclear weapons and support in terror constitutes a danger not only to Israel, but to the entire world,' Mofaz added.

Mofaz, formerly chief of staff of Israeli defense forces, told the annual Herzliya Conference on the Israel`s national security that in addition to Tehran`s nuclear ambitions, Iran was directly sponsoring the Hizbollah terrorist organization to the tune of $100 million a year.

'Money is the fuel for terror,' Mofaz said. 'The financial assistance Iran transfers to Hizbollah totals some 100 million dollars each year. Some of these funds are funneled from Hizbollah to Palestinian terror groups. In addition, Iran is the main sponsor of the Islamic Jihad, which carried out most suicide attacks in Israel last year, including the attack in Tel Aviv`s central bus station.'

He added that Islamic Jihad cells in the West Bank received about 10 million dollars from Hizbullah in 2005, compared to just 5 million dollars in 2004.

In his combative speech, Mofaz described last week`s Damascus meeting between Ahmadinejad and Syrian President Bashar Assad as 'the summit of terror,' and called the two leaders 'representatives of the past.'
But Mofaz made it clear that while Israel could act alone of it had to, the Jewish state was also wary of being isolated diplomatically, and would work hard to build regional alliances and cooperate with the international community.

'In the coming years we need to boost the strategic coordination with the U.S. and Europe, as well as with the peaceful countries Egypt and Jordan. Jihad draws near to us, and so we must combine efforts with the countries of the West,' the defense minister said.

'Syria is under international pressure, while we have peace agreements with Arab states and the reality does not allow for the formation of an Arab coalition against Israel. The strength of the peace agreements with Jordan and Egypt contributes to stability in the region, which is why they must continue to be nurtured,' Mofaz concluded.

Tehran plans nuclear weapon test by March

WASHINGTON, Jan. 19 (UPI) -- Tehran is planning a nuclear weapons test before the Iranian New Year on March 20, 2006 says a group opposed to the regime in Tehran.

The Foundation for Democracy citing sources in the U.S and Iran offered no further information.

The FDI quotes sources in Iran that the high command of the Revolutionary Guards Air Force have issued new orders to Shahab-3 missile units, ordering them to move mobile missile launchers every 24 hours in view of a potential pre-emptive strike by the U.S. or Israel. The order was issued Tuesday, Jan. 16.

The group says the launchers move only at night, and have been instructed to change their positions "in a radius of 30 to 35 kilometers." Prior to the new orders the Shahab-3 units changed position on a weekly basis. Advance Shahab-3 units have been positioned in Kermanshah and Hamadan province, within striking distance of Israel. Reserve mobile launchers have been moved to Esfahan and Fars province.

Iran's president, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, says Israel is an alien implantation whose people should return to Europe or perhaps settle in Alaska. So it is an irony that Israel's president, Moshe Katzav, is in fact a Farsi-speaker born in Iran. Ditto Israel's defence minister, Shaul Mofaz, who is doubtless preoccupied nowadays with how to destroy Iran's nuclear programme.

He is advised by Dan Halutz, Israel's former air-force commander and now chief of staff. Lieut-General Halutz was born in Israel, both his parents in Iran. They seem to have taught him a sense of humour. Asked how far Israel would go to stop Iran's nuclear programme, he replied: “two thousand kilometres”.

That was a surprisingly good article from the Economist. Hopefully the Islamic Regime will be overthrown soon, and the return visit Halutz is pondering will be peaceful and friendly.

Bush declares support for Freedom of Iran in State of Union
speech

SMCCDI (Information Service)
January 31, 2006

President George W. Bush delivered, on Tuesday evening, his
fifth State of Union Speech.

Declaring his firm commitment to the notion of liberty and
willingness to help the oppressed nations to break their
chains of capitivity and to change unpopular and
un-accountable regimes, he stated: "Tonight the state of
our union is strong -- and together we will make it
stronger....America rejects the false comfort of
isolationism. We are the nation that saved liberty in
Europe, and liberated death camps, and helped raise up
democracies, and faced down an evil empire. Once again, we
accept the call of history to deliver the oppressed, and
move this world toward peace....We will choose to act
confidently in pursuing the enemies of freedom ...our
nation is committed to an historic, long-term goal -- we
seek the end of tyranny in our world. Some dismiss that
goal as misguided idealism. In reality, the future security
of America depends on it. On September 11th, 2001, we found
that problems originating in a failed and oppressive state
seven thousand miles away could bring murder and
destruction to our country. Dictatorships shelter
terrorists, feed resentment and radicalism, and seek
weapons of mass destruction. Democracies replace resentment
with hope, respect the rights of their citizens and their
neighbors, and join the fight against terror. Every step
toward freedom in the world makes our country safer, and so
we will act boldly in freedom's cause. Far from being a
hopeless dream, the advance of freedom is the great story
of our time. In 1945, there were about two dozen lonely
democracies on earth. Today, there are 122. And we are
writing a new chapter in the story of self-government --
with women lining up to vote in Afghanistan ... and
millions of Iraqis marking their liberty with purple ink
... and men and women from Lebanon to Egypt debating the
rights of individuals and the necessity of freedom..."

Then slamming human rights abuser regimes, such as the
Islamic republic, he added: " ...At the start of 2006, more
than half the people of our world live in democratic
nations. And we do not forget the other half -- in places
like Syria, Burma, Zimbabwe, North Korea, and Iran --
because the demands of justice, and the peace of this
world, require their freedom as well."

Getting more specific on the threats posed by the Islamic
republic regime and the legitimate aspiration of the
Iranian People to free itself, he emphasized: "Democracies
in the Middle East will not look like our own, because they
will reflect the traditions of their own citizens. Yet
liberty is the future of every nation in the Middle East,
because liberty is the right and hope of all humanity. The
same is true of Iran, a nation now held hostage by a small
clerical elite that is isolating and repressing its people.
The regime in that country sponsors terrorists in the
Palestinian territories and in Lebanon -- and that must
come to an end. The Iranian government is defying the world
with its nuclear ambitions -- and the nations of the world
must not permit the Iranian regime to gain nuclear weapons.
America will continue to rally the world to confront these
threats. And tonight, let me speak directly to the citizens
of Iran: America respects you, and we respect your country.
We respect your right to choose your own future and win
your own freedom. And our nation hopes one day to be the
closest of friends with a free and democratic Iran."

Millions of Iranians and most dissident groups, such as the
SMCCDI and the "Iran's National Secular Party" (INSP), have
great hopes that the Bush Administration will use of all
its diplomatic and economic power in order to help them to
bring down the theocracy by non-military means and will
support them in the creation of an elected secular and
democratic political structure.

Aryo B. Pirouznia who spoke shortly after Mr. Bush's speech
to the popular NITV, on behalf of SMCCDI and INSP,
welcomed the Presidential speech. He called on the Iranian
Diaspora to carry actions showing the Iranians' expression
of gratitude to the US executive head for his comments.

Responding to the well respected anchors, Zia Attabai and
Manook Khodabakhshian, Pirouznia added: "Iranians of inside
have long showed their rejection of the Islamic regime and
are still paying the high price for their braveries. In
such conditions, we can't ask them to do more. The time has
come for Iranians who are residing abroad and especially in
the US to respond to their duty. This duty is to back their
countrymen and to seize every occasion to show their
people's opposition to the totality of the Islamic regime"

The Movement's Coordinator emphasized: "As an example, I
hope that Iranians who are residing in the US and
particularly in California will participate, tomorrow
Wednesday Feb. 1st, in the rallies organized by the
"United American Committee" (
http://www.unitedamericancommittee.org/ )against
Islamo-Fascism and will thank Mr. Bush. These rallies are
taking place in cities, such as, Los Angeles, Dallas and
New York and our members will participate in them.
Furthermore, myself and my comrades are planning to go and
express our gratitude in front of President's Bush ranch
located in Crawford, Texas next W-End. I call on those who
are living in Texas to join us!"

I fully agree with you that this is the time for a sign from Iranian people.

What's important to remember is that I don't state what I do to produce a "sign" for the int. community. What you and the entire opposition need to produce is a situation whereby you produce a "sign" to your fellow Iranians that "we can do this, by the numbers" and help those who are opposed yet afraid to act that not only is their safety in numbers, but that they may lose their fear in the process.

You put a million on the streets on the first day, 5 million will join by the end of the week if those initial million are willing to take what gets thrown at them by the regime... for as long as it takes....this is no "protest action" this involves a takeover of Parliament, radio and TV stations, police and government buildings....the calling for true sons of Iran to abandon their support for the mullahs...for the Rev. Guard to join the people via broadcast....and it is based on "live free or die" as a premise of the reality of the situation, not a theory or nice words, waiting for outside financial support, or any other....failure to act on your own behalf.

If you can't get a million to act...don't. I've seen too many piecemeal protests crushed to think you could do it with any less than this.

I won't sell you fairy tales, they'll throw everything they've got at it.

However, dont you think the regime knows this?

They count on instilling fear to control the people, to keep them as sheep.

I am aware of the timing but how can people who are totaly cencured get aware of this?

Again, by the numbers...you tell ten people, those ten tell ten each, and so on...in less than a month a good percentage of the people in Iran itself will get the message: Azadi ( a start date) and let's say that is Feb 22...a million on that date, 6 mill by the first of March, 10 mil by the week following....spreading to the entire country.

If Cyrus is correct in his estimation that 95% of the population opposes the mullah's regime....you'll have your revolution.

Quote:
Quote:
How can Iranian people whom for such aloong time heard that US is behind them take this one seriously?

I can't tell you whether to take this American's assessment as the truth or not...that is for you folks to decide for yourselves....you do this for yourselves, not us, not for the west ...but for yourselves.

If the following is (as I believe it to be) a true and correct assessment of regime intent, then you have all the incentive you need.

Now I said "I'll show you regime change" ...more importantly you will realize it for yourselves.

as I'm not selling fairy tales the attempts by the regime to crush this will not only be viewed by free nations as a "crime against humanity" but will be responded to as such.

You and I both know the IRI wants a war, not just to bring the people on the side of the Mullah, but to galvanized the entire world's Muslim population against the west in jihad.

They don't care if they take a "hit" , or even lose it technically if it speeds up the return of the Mahdi...they figure if they push the west to attack, they've won the hearts and minds of not only the people of Iran, but the world's Muslims as well. And in the end, the west will lose big time.

If the west doesn't buy into their game, they have another option....

What better way to start a "holy war" than to use the Iranian people as martyrs in a "so-called" nuclear strike on Iran , and blame it on Israel and the US?

To cover their asses, the Mullahs have stated "We don't need nuclear weapons, our religion does not allow us to have them."

That's true enough, it doesn't....thus no Muslim would believe they would nuke their own people.

At which point, they would be perfectly "justified" in wiping Israel off the map, launching the Banana peeler via missile, terrorism opps world wide, and that's how they figure they will take down America, not only politically and economically via the anger directed at the US via the "criminal surprise attack using WMD by the great Satan" , but physically as well, including the EU as its allies. They are rapidly isolating themselves on purpose in preparation to close borders as the banana peeler is virulent, and would pose a threat to them as well unless they were totally isolated from all contact, travel, etc. and honestly, perhaps not even then...weaponized and probably airborn transmittable initially, person to person thereafter. A virulent hemorrhagic fever ....a lot like Ebola....

So, How do we prevent this? The semi-predictable path of the UN has already been assessed and anticipated by the regime...they have factored this into their planning, thus the pushing of the west to go that rout...."no option is off the table" etc..etc...etc....lot of "war talk" prior, as we see today....

Outrageous you say? Perhaps, but in the given situation which is outrageous itself today, I know darn well another nuclear option has been explored already....and far more devastating. The "Boomers" of several nations are no doubt parked right off the Iranian coast as I write this.

You've probably seen the French president's comments by now.....all of it plays into the mullahs planning for the biggest lie of all.

The only way the Iranian people can take their destiny into their own hands, and change the equation in favor of peace, is to put at least 2 million people on the streets of Tehran within thirty days, keeping them there 24/7 in shifts...wearing down the regime forces from lack of sleep if nothing else, taking over parliament, calling for "regime change" , and if that happens, the int. community would have to back them up with the moral support of free nations.

If the opposition could get its act together to create this, the people would lose their fear of the regime, despite everything the regime would throw at them, and the bloodshed they'd cause....the world would have no other moral option but to support them in that case, totally....via "responsibility to protect".

A protest of that magnitude would spread out to the entire country, and it would be highly suspect if a nuke suddenly went off in the middle of that....and would undermine the mullah's claim the west was responsible.

The Iranian people have nothing left to lose at this point except their lives...better to die fighting for their freedom than to be victims of the regime's big lie ......

E,

2 nukes were delivered intact to the regime in 2004 (North Korea probable point of origin) the regime took them apart for production purposes, to copy and then reassemble...I can't tell how I know this...
But it's the truth....according to a recent report, they may "test" by March 20. I don't know whether that's the case, but my assessment above is not based on that report anyway....a lot of research and source info that I can't get into....there's enough in the public eye to give this assessment all the credibility it needs I think without me getting into further detail of the regime's intent.

There are worse things than Nukes the IRI has in stock...they are fast isolating themselves in preparation for the use of the biologicals as a "response" to the above scenario they create themselves, or as a response to an actual attack, if the west feels it has no other option.

All I can say more is that as an American , one who has been on a number of forums like this one, as one who stands with the Iranian people's aspirations for freedom....not only do I understand those doubts you express on behalf of the opposition generally, I've taken an immense amount of crap over the years personally because of them, not from you personally but in general terms, by and as I've experienced it.

I'll stand on a track record of accuracy, and the assessment as delivered here.....again it is up to others to judge its merits.

Ba sepaas,

Oppie

Correct, it is those inside who must convince themselves they are capable of doing the seemingly impossible, knowing they have full support of their countrymen in exile, along with the hopes and moral support of the free nations of the world.

As to my assessment above....and further confirmation of capability....

Iran already has the bomb

Rafi Eitan suspects that Iran already has enough enriched uranium fissionable material to manufacture at least one or two atom bombs of the Hiroshima type. "Otherwise Iranian President Ahmadinejad would not have dared come out with his declaration that Israel should be wiped off the map," repeating it in various versions. His efforts at denying the Holocaust in which six million Jews were slaughtered prove that there is method in Ahmadinejad's madness. "Don't treat him like a madman," Chief of General Staff Dan Halutz recently cautioned.

Mofaz: We have contingency plan for Iran

Asked in Germany whether Israel has contingency plan in case international attempts to stop Iran's nuclear plan fail, defense minister says 'Israel has many drawers, containing all its needs to defend our citizens'
Hanan Greenberg

Defense Minister Shaul Mofaz said Wednesday during a visit to Germany that "the State of Israel has many drawers, containing all it needs in order to defend our citizens."

Mofaz spoke after he was asked by German reporters whether Israel has a contingency plan in case the international attempts to stop the Iranian nuclear program fail.

Security Council

U.S.: U.N. Iran hearing to start next week / News Agencies

Senior American diplomat tells Congress Iran has not met conditions at IAEA, therefore new phase of diplomacy to be started at Security Council next Monday or Tuesday; says Iran 'directly threatens vital American interests'
Full story

The question was asked in light of the decision of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) to refer Iran's nuclear issue to the United Nations' Security Council. Iran's hearing is expected to begin next week.

Mofaz, who met in Germany with state officials, including the defense and foreign ministers, added that "the State of Israel and the Jewish people will never again face a situation in which our existence is being threatened."

"We do not intend on turning a blind eye to any threat that we may face, and we will do everything so that the threat is not realized," he said.

German Defense Minister Franz Josef Jung said after his meeting with Mofaz in Berlin that Germany explicitly supports Israel.

"I too see the danger in an Iranian nuclear bomb. We are allies on this issue. I never imagined that a state leader would stand up and deny the Holocaust or declare once and again that the State of Israel must be destroyed and has no right to exist," the German minister added.

'Nuclear Iran will be different'

Mofaz proceeded to congratulate the decision reached in Vienna, according to which the issue of the Iranian nuclear program will be referred to the U.N. Security Council.

He stressed that international pressure and sanctions on Iran must be applied decisively to bring Iran’s program to a halt.

“Iran with nuclear weapons will be different to the entire world,” the defense minister said.

Mofaz and his German counterpart agreed to increase security-related cooperation between the countries, including arms development.

The German minister clarified during the meeting that his country supports Israel in its policy toward Hamas and on the Syrian issue.

On Tuesday morning Mofaz visited Berlin’s Grunwald Station, from where many Jews were sent to their deaths in concentration camps.

“The threats to Israel's safety remain unchanged," he said during a commemoration ceremony at the site. ”The anti-Semitic statements made by the president of Iran, a Holocaust denier, echo a past that must not be forgotten."

From Germany Mofaz continues to Bucharest, where he is scheduled to meet Romanian President Traian Basescu, as well as the country’s prime minister and defense minister.

The visit is aimed at strengthening Israel’s ties with both Israel and Germany and preserving the international front against Hamas and global terror.

Israel and the United States have agreed to appoint two working committees in order to hone a joint strategy against Iran's nuclear ambitions, public radio reported on Friday.

Deputy Prime Minister Shaul Mofaz headed discussions on the matter in the United States this week, it said.

One committee will deal with intelligence on Iran's nuclear drive and the other with international sanctions, the chief weapon in an effort to convince Tehran to halt uranium enrichment.

The next formal discussions between Israeli and US officials on Iran will be in two months in Israel, the radio station reported.

On Thursday, Mofaz called for Mohamed ElBaradei to be removed as head of UN nuclear watchdog the International Atomic Energy Agency, saying he had turned a blind eye to Iran's nuclear ambitions.

Public radio quoted unnamed Israeli officials as saying the Mofaz delegation to Washington fed precise intelligence to the United States, alluding to satellite photographs.

Israel and the United States are leading the campaign against Iran's nuclear programme, believing it to be a cover to develop an atomic bomb.

Tehran insists its activities are aimed solely at producing electricity for a growing population once fossil fuels run out.

Israel considers Iran its chief enemy after repeated statements by President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad that the Jewish state should be wiped off the map.

It belongs to the UN nuclear watchdog but is not a signatory to its key Non-Proliferation Treaty, and is widely considered to have the Middle East's sole -- if undeclared -- nuclear arsenal.
