An Orphaned People
Source : H. Hakimi Email Broadcast
Dear Friends,
The earthquake tragedy of Bam is beyond comprehension - so many dead, so many suffering and homeless, a historical town wiped out.
What is startling, for me at least, is that the world community and the UN are treating Iran as it would some poor and backward country, a country without money and means. One hundred million dollars from the IRI budget should and could be put aside at once for this tragedy, instead of being spent by this ruthless and inhumane regime to sponsor terrorists, build nuclear reactors and fill some of its leaders deep pockets.
This is another shameful and black marker on the IRI, maybe one of its worst !
How can the people of Iran accept to be treated like orphans ? The answer to this, dear friends : they have been kicked around, shamed and abandoned like orphans, and when tragedy strikes, they extend their arms to the world and raise their voices in pain, but somehow all are lost in the international political game and unfortunately, the disunity of Iranians of the Diaspora. Of course the world community finds pity and extends money and humanitarian help, including many Iranians, but that is not what this is all about - the truth of this tragedy is the continued power-game of the keepers of this country and their hold on a people who were born proud but are abused and abandoned.

New aid appeal for quake-hit Bam
The Red Cross and United Nations are appealing for $73m to help the people of the Iranian quake-hit city of Bam over the next three months.
The money will be spent on medical care and rebuilding the city's infrastructure and farms.
The World Health Organisation says in the longer term $30m will be needed to restore the city's health service.
Nearly all medical facilities were destroyed in the earthquake which killed some 30,000 people.

"The suffering of the Bam people has just started."
More than 40 countries sent aid to Iran soon after the quake, but aid agencies have warned that more help is needed for longer-term reconstruction.
The UN says Bam's survivors will still need international support in years to come.
